Default C6 Wheels On C5

I plan on puchasing a Torch Red FRC (99-00) C5 soon. I envision putting C6 Wheels (alloy, not chrome) on it. Just wondering what they pros think about this plan.

I prefer the staggered look, but I'd like to be able to rotate my tires to save costs. Thus, I'm looking about buying (4) 19" C6 wheels. Do y'all foresee any issues with that? Or should I just cough up the money and do 20" in the rear, 19" in the front?

Also, do you recommend a OEM wheel provider? After a quick Google search, all I found were replicas. The replicas would likely look good enough, assuming I can get Corvette center caps, but I definitely prefer OEM.

Thanks guys,
Craig

Here's my old C5 with competition gray C6 wheels, you'll need wheel adapters on the rear so they don't sit too far in the fender wells, at least 3/4 inch adapters (not spacers) though I had 1 and 1/4 inch adapters on mine and liked the look

wow! that looks really nice! Is "competition gray" the standard OEM color? I've only seen "silver" "gunmetal" in my search of replica C6s.

Yours is pretty much the look I'm pursuing. C6 wheels look fantastic on a C5.

Here is mine. I run 1/4" spacers in the back and they are fine. I have had this set up for a year with no problems. 18" front 19" rear. These are real OEM wheels from an 06' C6.

sweet. What's the color name? Are yours chrome or regular alloy? (lighting in photos sometimes makes it hard for me to tell difference)

Lots of good discussion here:

Watch the C6 parts for sale forum for the wheels you need.

My buddy had a C6z replicas on his. I think they look better than the base C6 wheels.

You cannot have all 4 tires the same size.

You can run 4 of the same size wheel and take the tires off the wheel to rotate them, but you have to have like a 7% stagger in tire height to keep the traction control from having issues.

Damn really? Thanks for the input. I totally would've proceeded with purchasing 4 identical tires/rims. I'd still like to so if anybody knows a way around this problem, please chime in.

Thanks,
Craig

The only way around it, is to disable traction control. always... Its irritating turing it off on my car when I have my track wheels on. To close to the same size.

I really wish it was a switch that would stay off rather then a button that gets reset every time you turn the car off.

Not sure if they're "standard" I've only saw them in person on one C6, I think it was an 07

No way to know in advance if any specific C5 will work properly with this setup. Some do but many do NOT. ie TC is activated because the computer thinks the rear wheels are spinning relative to the front wheels.

Turning off TC every time you start the car can avoid TC intervening when you don't want it to but as mentioned that becomes a PIA quickly like after the first time you forget.
I am 100% certain you know more then me.

but you yourself told this forum you have to have different sizes: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-and-rear.html

Same size wheels is done all the time. But you need to loose the old school "rotate" the tires. GM put "stagger" into the wheel/tire set up for a reason and it was NOT all appearance. The overall diameter of the rear tires needs to be between 1/2" and 1 1/2" larger than the overall diameter of the front tires in order to avoid TC or AH problems. The computer using the wheel speed sensors monitors the rotational speed of each wheel. When the rear tires are rotating faster than the front tires, the TC and or AH system steps in and attempts to control what it thinks is an out of control car. It applies the anti-lock brakes to the problem wheel(s) and backs out fuel and timing in it's attempts to bring the car into control. Wrong sizes of tires can fool the computer into thinking the car is out of control when it actually is not. But the TC/AH system doesn't know that and acts according to the logic built into the system.
Are you disagreeing with me or yourself?

Why would you have smaller back tires?
I cannot see how that would look good. I understand if you have larger wheels, but if the the wheels are the same size why?

Learn something everyday. I was not aware any of the cars would not get upset about the ratio being out. I know for a fact mine gets upset. Have to clear the codes when I forget to push the little button.

Would love to know which cars were working as designed. The ones that flip out or the ones that ignore it.

I have OEM C6 Z06 Spyders on my C5. No spacers needed. 19x12 in the back and they fit fine. No rubbing. No issues.
They came off an 08 or 09 Lingenfelter.
Since the Z06 tires are wider they stick out perfectly and aren't inboard like the skinnier C6 wheels.
