C8 Corvette Owner Runs Into Some Issues After 18,000 Miles
Some strange service lights and a mysterious noise emerge in this C8 Corvette, which has been driven rather hard.
As most of us are well aware, modding a car or pushing it on the track are great ways to accelerate parts wear and cause problems. Regardless, many new vehicles are built to withstand this kind of punishment, though results will most certainly vary. When it comes to the C8 Corvette, YouTuber Austin Everett of the Speed Phenom channel is one of the unlucky ones after his Stingray started exhibiting some problems as he crossed the 18,000-mile mark.
Those that are familiar with Everett and his antics already know that he routinely takes his C8 Corvette to the track and pushes it to its limits. He has documented countless track days on his channel since taking ownership of the car, as well as a number of spirited drives on public roads. That includes this latest clip, which shows Everett driving his C8 down the Angeles Crest Highway in Southern California with a host of exotics.
During the cruise, Everett once again waxes poetic about his Corvette and how great it is, as he’s done many times in the past. But then the video cuts to when he arrives home, and he begins to describe some problems that suddenly popped up. “I don’t know what’s going on right now,” Everett said. “The C8 is acting really weird.”
“Look at this – right there, service transmission now, unable to shift soon,” he said. “The car has been throwing check engine lights on me, also a service parking brake light. I’m really, really getting worried.” Everett tries to turn the car off and back on to see if it makes any difference, and it does, as the lights all magically disappear, even after he drives the car around a bit.
One thing that didn’t go away, however, was a grinding noise coming from the rear of the car. Everett has already removed the rear brakes and inspected the pads and rotors, but to no avail. A friend suggested that it may be a bearing, or potentially the e-brake. Either way, he plans on taking the car to the dealership so they can diagnose the problem, and it will be interesting to see what, if anything, they find.
