For 2024, GM is offering the Chevrolet Protection Plan for the C8 Corvette Stingray, which offers buyers some extra peace of mind.

In recent years, automakers have been offering things like extended warranties and maintenance plans to customers for a few notable reasons. Obviously, these products are profitable in that regard, and quite a few customers opt to pay for them for convenience’s sake, not to mention because they offer a little peace of mind. However, there are some important changes that took place with the Chevrolet Protection Plan that GM offers for the C8 Corvette Stingray worth lulling over before taking that financial plunge.

This information is outlined in great detail in this recent thread at CorvetteForum, courtesy of a member known as StairStep. They recently confirmed that the GM Bumper to Bumper Limited Factory Warranty Extension is not available for the 2024 C8 Corvette, which previously provided customers with things like a free first oil change, roadside assistance, and the typical extended warranty. Instead, customers can now opt for the Chevrolet Protection Plan, which is “not administered, backed, or at all influenceable by General Motors,” according to this post, but rather, the Obligor of the Protection Plan product is GM Protections, LLC, and the Administrator  is Safe-Guard Products International, LLC.

There are three tiers of coverage in the Chevrolet Protection Plan – Powertrain, Silver, and Platinum. Customers can also choose from a few different terms for their coverage regarding years and mileage, and there are multiple deductible options. The plan can be purchased after the vehicle, as it kicks in at the time of purchase. Customers can also transfer the plan to they new owner if they opt to sell, but the price does go up the longer you wait to buy it – by around 8-10 percent each year, or 20-30 percent for every 12,000 miles driven.

Waiting until one’s initial warranty runs out will drive that cost up significantly more, it seems. According to StairStep, they were quoted $1,512 for a seven-year, 56,000-mile Platinum Chevrolet Protection Plan before buying their 2024 C8 Corvette Stingray. One can even opt for a whopping eight-year, 80,000-mile plan, but for Platinum level, it also costs $700 more than the seven-year plan, making it seem like a poor deal.

However, other forum members seem to have found a “sweet spot” when it comes to timing the purchase of the Chevrolet Protection Plan. Prior to the annual increase that happens on October 2 or at the 12,000-mile mark, upgrading to Platinum costs around $100-$150, but that price goes way up after October 2 – $300-$450. Even then, there are some notable exceptions this plan doesn’t cover that buyers should be aware of – convertible tops and their framework, upholstery, and paint, as StairStep points out, which could be a dealbreaker for some.

Regardless, this is great info for anyone who’s considering the purchase of a 2024 and up C8 Corvette. After all, the terms of these types of agreements can often be confusing and mired in legal speak, so it’s nice to be able to digest it more easily before making a major financial decision.
