C8 Corvette Zora Taking Inspiration From Ferrari SF90 Stradale
GM is looking at another electrified supercar as it continues to develop the C8 Corvette Zora.
Benchmarking is a common practice in the automotive world, a highly competitive industry where companies are constantly trying to one-up each other with superior products. General Motors famously benchmarked a Ferrari 458 when it was developing the new 2023 Corvette Z06, as we recently learned, and now, GM Authority is reporting that another model from the Prancing Horse is being used as inspiration for the C8 Corvette Zora, too.
That model is the Ferrari SF90 Stradale, a copy of which was recently spied at General Motors’ Milford Proving Grounds in Michigan. It’s quite the capable machine as well, a mid-engine plug-in hybrid supercar that utilizes a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and three electric motors to generate a combined output of 986 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. With two electric motors up front and the third in between the engine and transmission, that power flows to all four wheels, too.
As one might imagine, the SF90 Stradale is rather quick, and you’d be right – testers have achieved a 2-second flat o-60 run, while the car’s top speed comes in at 211 miles-per-hour. All of this sounds a lot like what we’ve heard about the C8 Corvette Zora, which is expected to come equipped with a twin-turbo version of GM’s 5.5-liter LT7 and multiple electric motors, which will help it drive all four wheels and make somewhere around 1,000 horsepower and 1,000 pound-feet of torque.
If those rumors come true, the C8 Corvette Zora would obviously blow the SF90 Stradale out of the proverbial water in terms of performance, along with many other high-end exotics and hypercars currently for sale. But the Zora is intended to represent the ultimate gas-powered version of the Corvette, a car that may be the last of its kind before electricity takes over for good. In that vein, GM wants to send the ICE sports car out with a massive bang.
Of course, four-digit output is certainly a good way to do that, and we imagine that the “father” of the Corvette would be proud to have his name used on what might be the ultimate iteration of the iconic sports car in its long and illustrious history.
