How the 2023 Corvette Z06 Dealer Allocation Process Will Work

Z06 Allocation model

GM will utilize the historic sales volume allocation model based on Stingray 3LT sales to determine a dealer’s Z06 allocation.

The Corvette C8 Z06 is not just a highly anticipated Corvette. It is one of the most highly anticipated vehicles period. Many future buyers have been on waiting lists for years for a chance to grab the new C8 Z06. Even with prices higher than many anticipated, it is not dissuading enthusiasts looking for the hottest Corvette to date. If you are one of those people hoping to score one of the first examples, then hopefully you have your reservation in with a dealer that sold a lot of 3LT Stingrays. As reported by GM Authority GM will allocate new units of the 2023 Chevy Corvette Z06 based on 2020, 2021, and 2022 Corvette C8 Stingray 3LT sales volume. This allocation model is known as the historic sales volume model.

It was previously believed that GM may follow the Average Day Supply (ADS) allocation model. In the ADS model the number of cars a dealership will be allocated is based on the speed in which they sell cars. In other words, Corvette dealers that sell Corvettes faster will receive a greater allocation of future Corvettes. The ADS model is more advantageous for smaller dealers. The small dealers may not sell as many cars, but they sell them quickly so GM rewards them by sending them more. However, with the historic sales volume allocation model bigger is better. Sell more, and you get more. It is as simple as that.

Dealer Impact

Well, the most obvious impact is to the smaller dealers. If a tiny GM store in a small town sold few to no 3LT Stingrays, then they may not ever see a 2023 Corvette Z06. But even mid to large dealers may get fewer allocations than they expected. If dealership A sold 1,000 Corvettes but only 100 were 3LT they will get fewer Z06 allocations than dealership B that sold only 500 Corvettes but 200 were 3LT. In a way it makes sense for GM as the 3LT was the most expensive model, so it is reasonable to think that dealers that sold more of them have more buyers in the Z06 demographic.

If you are hoping to get a Z06 anytime soon and working with a dealership that didn’t sell many 3LT models, you might be in for an even longer wait. It is likely that GM will eventually switch to the ADS model and that will likely get some more Z06 cars to the smaller dealers. But that won’t be for a while, so you are going to need to have some patience.

No Perfect Solution

Everyone wants a Z06 and there was really no option for GM that was going to make everyone happy. Unless they announced that they would build 100,000 of them per year. Of course, then people would probably complain that there are too many of them. The Z06 is a terrific car and hopefully everyone that wants one will eventually be able to get one. But for now, we are all going to just have to suffer through the wait.
