C8 Corvette ZR1 to Be Revealed on July 25

Chevrolet dropped another teaser video that announced the date of the C8 Corvette ZR1 reveal. The ‘unthinkable’ will become thinkable on July 25.

It is almost here! We are just over a month away from the formal reveal of the C8 Corvette ZR1. Chevrolet posted a video to their YouTube channel today, confirming the official reveal date as July 25, 2024. Will it be a twin-turbo? How much horsepower will it make? What will the final design look like? All those questions should finally be answered just five Thursdays from today.

Based on previous teaser videos we believe that the new ZR1 will be powered by a twin-turbo version of the LT6 flat-plane crank V8 found in the C8 Z06. If that turns out to be true, that means a couple of things. First, it will be the first factory-turbocharged Corvette in its 71-year history. Second, it will be the most powerful factory Corvette the world has ever seen. Previous spy photos indicate that the C8 Corvette ZR1 is going to have massive aerodynamic elements. We might not have all the details yet, but we know this car is going to offer some incredible performance. Or in the words of Chevrolet, it is going to be unthinkable.

As of this writing, we are at T minus 35 days. So, we get to speculate for just a little bit longer. We think the car will be powered by the LT7 powerplant and should generate in the neighborhood of 850 horsepower. We don’t expect any hybrid assist or an all-wheel drive configuration. However, both of those things could materialize in a future Zora model. We can kick around Zora rumors after we digest all of the information we are about to learn about the ZR1.

Getting One

teaser

Are you on the ZR1 list at your local dealer? If not, you won’t be getting one any time soon. Many folks have been on the list for years in anticipation of this hot C8 Corvette model. But how much are those people on the list going to need to spend in order to put a ZR1 in their driveway? In 2019, the base price of a ZR1 was $122,095. That is roughly $152,000 in 2024 dollars. So, don’t expect it to start at any less than that. With all the upgraded technology and power that will come with the 2025 version, we would not be surprised to see a $175,000 base price on the new ZR1. Loaded up with a few options, and you are looking at over $200K for a Corvette. And that is before dealerships try to bilk customers with tens of thousands of dollars in additional markups.

Will the C8 ZR1 be worth that kind of money? Can it possibly live up to the enormous hype? On July 25, we will have much more information to help us answer those questions.
