This might just be the finest 1963 Corvette Z06 on earth, more than justifying its eye-opening price tag.

Early Z06 Corvettes are some of the rarest and most coveted vehicles in existence, as most fans of the iconic model are already well aware. Thus, they routinely change hands for huge money at auction, and that trend has only been fueled further by exploding collector car prices in recent months. Case in point – this amazing 1963 Corvette Z06, which recently sold at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island auction for a whopping $1.24 million.

Only 199 examples of the 1963 Corvette Z06 were built in total, making any one of them a truly valuable collectible. However, this coupe might just be the best of the bunch, as it has only 5,400 original miles on the clock, a stunningly low figure by any stretch of the imagination. It’s also completely original and unrestored, yet it’s in truly immaculate condition as well.

The only Sebring Silver 1963 Corvette Z06 is a prized possession in anyone’s book, and as such, this amazing machine has racked up numerous distinctions including Bloomington Gold certification and multiple NCRS Top Flight awards. In fact, the founder of Bloomington Gold – David Burroughs – called this car “the most perfectly intact and preserved exemplar of the entire 1963 – 1967 production run.” It has also appeared in numerous publications over the years, becoming quite famous among Corvette fans in the process.

Thus, it’s not terribly surprising that this amazingly well-preserved piece of history hammered for such a huge sum at auction. The Z06 of this generation is a truly beloved model, thanks mostly to its racing lineage, of course. Fitted with an L84 327 cubic-inch V8 with Rochester Ramjet mechanical fuel injection, it cranked out a healthy 360 horsepower, which flows to the rear wheels via a four-speed close-ratio manual gearbox, but those aren’t the only special parts present on this race car for the street.

The Z06 was also fitted with a heavy-duty suspension with upgraded coil springs, shock absorbers, and a front stabilizer bar, as well as special brake drums with cooling fins and fans, ventilated backing plates, metallic linings, elephant ear scoops, a dual-circuit master cylinder, and vacuum power booster. It was a truly revolutionary machine in its era, and today, it’s an increasingly valuable and highly coveted collectible as a result.
