I have one for my Fawn Beige '62, I was always going to go with the "Route 66" look, vintage luggage, bedrolls and all . . . but in the end I just couldn't bring myself to drill holes in my deck lid. I did suction-cup mount it for a few local shows, got a lot pf positive comments - so I guess I'll just hang on to it. I actually kind of like the look.

Any current pictures? I believe the Route 66 cars had a suction cup and strap mounting method; not drilled. On a fawn 62, it would be nostalgic!

Incidently, I also installed seat belts on the car, bought from Sears and they looked good too - chrome buckles, red straps, etc. No Corvette America, Paragon, Eckler's, etc. in those days. On we go.
I would like to see photos of your 61 , I know my car has at one time had holes drilled in the truck lid , was your 61 a late build car ?

Funny this old thread popped up. I brought home a 61 yesterday and this was in the trunk. The PO bought it years ago but never installed it, thank goodness. I don’t know what it vehicle it was originally for. Corvette?

Not a luggage rack, but I've had this ski rack on mine numerous times.

Sorry Robbie, I have to beg to differ with you a bit.

That is NOT an ugly rack! That is NOT an ugly rack! That is NOT an ugly rack!

LOL!

I think luggage racks on the trunk lid look good!
If I had one on mine I wouldn't take it off. But on the other hand since it doesn't have one I doubt if I would ever add one.

Considering the fact that they run around 400 bills (AMCO) for a period correct rack, I think your'e indecision is going to save you money!!

Very handy when traveling with the wife. Two suit cases and a
large tool box in the trunk. Don't remember where I bought it.

Ray: I know this may be a late response to your Forum message, but what type of rack did you have on the car? Is it possible to put one on in a way that is temporary without injuring the paint? Thx., Ron M--arjay0@msn.com

Not a '61, but I put a luggage rack on my '62 a couple years ago. Looking through my pictures, I realized I don't have any good shots of the trunk area. Bought it because I liked the look; picked up a watertight duffle bag for traveling but have yet to use it (manage to get all our bags in the trunk).

I think it looks better with the hardtop more so than the soft top, but knew that before I drilled the first hole. All in all, I'm glad I put it on. Will try to get some pictures before parking the car for the winter.

I have a 62 that has always had the luggage rack.....lots of complements on it......I've had the car for 42 years......I'll send you a picture of it......I took it off a little bit ago to repaint the inside of the truck.....but it is a small rack and I'll send you the measurements of it with the four holes you have.....to be sure it's the same one.....mine is in perfect condition and was offered, not as an option, but as an accessory in 62.......very rare from what I hear.......interesting ....

The questions were raised 9 years ago when this thread was started. I'm sure the OP has it figured out by now.
