In one of the diagnostic books that I'm using it says something that doesn't make sense. Can anyone tell me what I should do for this.
Since number 1 and 8 are next to each other in firing order -- I don't get it.
To check for a worn distributor cam, line up the pointer with the timing mark. Then shift the timing light to the last cylinder (No. 8 on an eight, etc) If the cam is not worn, the timing mark will be lined up with the pointer the same as it was when the light was connected to No. 1 spark plug.

That test should have read to switch to #6 since both #1 and #6 reach TDC at the same time; therefore, both should read the same on the timing tag if all is well.
