The stamp clearly reads "6121199 F042IHP". I don't have an issue with the VIN stamp, but in the date stamp there is an "I" (a capital "i") where I think there should be a "1". Why would they use a capital "i" for a "1" in the date stamp? In the VIN stamp there are some "1"s used.
Maybe I could simply use a lesson interpretting the 66 engine pad stamps... What do you guys think?
I see a lot of date stamps (on the web) for 66 Corvettes that use an "I" in place of a "1", but I just wasn't sure if this was "normal" or "abnormal". I'm starting to think it was normal to do this.
The assembly date was applied at the Flint, MI engine plant using different gang fonts. The vin number was hand stamped at STL when the engine was assembled into the chassis so different fonts were used there. It looks good to me as well.

Also each factory stamping is a slightly different height.

That explains why the fonts look differently. Thanks.
