Sorry about the caps for the text, I will correct on next items. The Vin is 1z67k2s517488, built on March 29, 1972. The options listed on the window sticker are; special paint, power windows, custom deluxe front shoulder belts, convertible top black, auxilary hardtop, 4-season air conditioning, power brakes, turbo hydro-matic, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, power steering, F 70 X 15 white stripe tires, custom wheel covers, am/fm pushbutton radio, am/fm stereo radio, black vinyl interior. I have not taken any photo's yet, but I can over the holidays, I may need some help in posting them. The paperwork that came with this car is some of the best I have ever seen. Jim Wallace
I had no problem reading your post. And i think you have one hell of a collector car with the documentation you have!!!

...I've seen some for judging where they are judged "in primer" because they were "dealer painted" cars, not "factory" ones.

Very interesting car for sure and a great story. Take good care of it. I would love to see some pics of the car when you get them.

I seen a 74 Vette coupe with the spec trim tag that was black from the factory. I guess these cars were the COPO cars of the 70's.

A fellow member posted a copy of my tank sticker of my 75 vert some time back. It should still be in the archives. It is one of my favorite cars, in my collection. It was also painted black, black top, and black interior.

Black 1972
A friend of mine just purchased a original paint Black 1972 vert with with the whole word special on the trim tag where the paint code would be. The vin is 44 cars from the one posted here in 2007.
How rare is this ?

Why not black?
I can fully understand the issue of wavy body panels for not painting the car black. But, wouldn't the same issue occur with dark blue and dark green?

I have a hard time reading your replies to a lot of threads on the Forum due to your nitpicking comments. I think it's more distracting to read those posts.
I say that respectfully.
Jim,
Your 72 has an incredible story behind it. Wish I had that kind of documentation with some of my cars. Would love to have some paperwork that was touched (literally or figuratively) by a GM president.
Would love to see some pics.

Actually, the tri-powers were eliminated because of manufacturing costs. Factories couldn't charge what it cost to provide them and the same power could be achieved with one 4-barrel carb. In my opinion, the tri-power was a 'better' system because you could get reasonable economy if you kept your foot out of it and just ran on the center 2-barrel. I had a '65 Pontiac Catalina/Ventura with a 421 H/O and tri-power that could get 17-19 mpg at 70mph all day long. No one with a big block and a 4-barrel could do that well.
