Default Storage space...enough for a hockey bag?

I'm thinking of getting a C3 again, but have a big concern. The car would be my daily driver, and I play hockey twice a week.

Currently have an SL55, and before I purchased it I made sure my hockey bag would fit. It's tight, but it fits just fine. I don't mind a tight fit. I had a C5 before as well and the bag fit...tightly again, but still fit.

Does anyone have any experience with putting a hockey bag in a C3?

Not a lot of hockey down here but if we can cram golf clubs in ours don't see why you can't stick what's basically a big gym bag in yours, of course that stick will have to ride up front and blades off while driving!

Ive played years of hockey driving C3s. You have to put the bag in the passenger seat, and you have to carefully arrange the sticks so they fit without scraping things up. Tight fit, especially with today's bigger bags.

Thanks for the replies...so no luck putting them in the back? I do have a relatively small bag that I use.

I've never seen a hockey bag Id call "small" so Im not sure what you mean. Also, it depends on the model C3- convertible: no way, 68-77 coupe: no way. Both would have to go on the seat. 78-82 coupe: you might be able to shove it in, but a full size bag would require you leave the seat folded forward for more room. (plus the sticks)

I'm not sure I'd want to put a bag like that on a luggage rack. Usually has 3 straps that could flap around and possible damage paint. It weighs somewhere around 40 lbs, and the bag has about $1,000 in gear in it so if something happened where it fell off that'd be an expensive error. On the other hand...it would air out my bag pretty quick

Does anyone have the approx dimensions of the storage area back there?

68-77 3' wide x 2' long x 1' high
78 3' " x 2' " x 2' "
79-82 3' " x 5.5' " x 2' " seat folded forward

If you put 79 and up seats in any C3 that might be the answer because the those seats fold flat and you can get that 5.5" dimension on the pass side providing you dont have a pass.

Move the passenger seat all the way back, then place the bag in the footwell and up on the seat. You can use the seatbelt to hold it if you feel the need. Or, just remove the passenger seat during hockey season!

When my 68 was still under warranty I used it for trips to Boyne Mt. I got my longest set of skis {210`s} with no trouble inside the coupe, usually no passengers however. I hockey stick should be a piece of cake....

Doesn't an 82 have a hatch glass rear window? Maybe that would be the answer?

79-82, fold the passenger seat flat, and lay it on the back of the passenger seat, extending into the cargo area. The only drawback is that it now makes your car a one passenger car.

Probably not practical depending on weather, but with the t-top off, you have *unlimited* headroom...

As long as you're not a goalie you can fit a hockey bag in the back of a coupe. I have always run the sticks from the back and up onto the console. Passenger seat folded forward as others have said also works.

I'm not sure a hockey bag would fit in the back... a sea hag may fit but definitely not a bar wench.

I can't see why you wouldn't get a hockey bag in a '78-'82. If its that big a deal , take your hockey bag for the test drive. Tell the guy you'll buy it contigient on it fitting. I went camping with my '79 a lot when I was younger. 6 man tent. 2 sleeping bags. 2 duffle bags of clothes. All the extra crap you need. Axes , food, a little camp stove... We could't see out the back window, but the stuff was in there.

IME, the C3 w/manual transmission is a very competent vehicle on the ice and/or snow (less than front air dam height ), and I've literally lost count of the Jeep CJ's and other 4x4's I've blown by over the years.

As for the equipment issue, I'd agree with the advice about '79-82's being the most accommodating.
