One of the best defenses is to work on the car during the winter. Turn the radio on, and futz with it regularly, even if you aren't doing anything substantive, the mouse's view of your garage as an "inhabited space" will keep them away. I also set some traps around the garage, especially in the fall. I take a standard mouse trap, and tie a "froot loop" to the tang with some thread, then cover the thread with some peanut butter, very effective. Sometimes the best defense is an effective offense.....

Sunday, August, 29th... This may be the first "Winter Thread" this year on forum. Surely it's not that time already. YUCK !

The info was great... very helpful, for when the time comes, but I'm not putting the kids to bed for winter yet !!

This is an on-going battle!! Do not cut mice any slack. I am an Irish Spring guy: all 4 corners of the garage, a bar on each side of the interior, and 2 more on each side under the hood. Mousetraps w peanut butter also, outside the car.

Check the car periodically throughout the winter between snow shovelings.

This is not a winter only thing -- although they are much worse then. I got my tractor out today (kept in an outbuilding) - first time in a few weeks and found a mouse nest in front of the radiator screen - sure am glad I decided to clean it today. Two nights below 50 and the mice are already moving in.
