Numbers Matching 1970 . . . should I part it out or sell complete?
#21
Redwing01 makes a very good point. Parting is very time and labor intensive. I agree for that year Vette if rust or rot is not a problem sell it and the extras the way it is. If you had the money, knowledge and time it would be a fun project. It is a desirable yr decisions decisions.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for all the posts. I appreciate the info on what to look for and the identifying factors of this Corvette.
I completely admit my ignorance when it comes to these Corvettes. I have always loved them, but it seems that this one is just a little over my head.
I spoke with the previous owner this morning (he is a retired gentleman) and here's the additional info that I received.
It turns out that it is not a "full option" 1970 Corvette. It does not have the rear window defrost.
Here are the things it does have on it:
Power Windows
Power Brakes
AC
Posi
350 engine -- "L46". The engine code is "CTJ" Not too sure what that means
4spd
tilt/telescopic wheel
The new front end was ordered from Ecklers.
There are LOTS of extra parts. I'm not too sure where to begin. I'm going to try to go through some of them and create a list for selling everything all together.
In response to the seat belt question, I think I saw a set of seat belts in a box somewhere, but I'll check this weekend.
In response to the question -- why don't I restore it myself -- In my defense, I just started working on a 1958 Chevy Apache stepside pickup which also came with the sale.
The Corvette and all the parts are located in Jerseyville, IL . . . about an hour north of St. Louis.

Part it out. Those parts will get gobbled up quickly and you will get way more than $5k from the parts. Putting it all back together will take A LOT of time and energy. When all is said and done, it is worth more in parts than assembled, especially with a NEW front clip. There will be someone who may want it as is though. Sounds like a good car to customize also. If the frame and cage are solid, you should be able to sell it as is though. But don't expect to get much.

Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding....
We have a winner!!!!
We still don't know what condition the frame & birdcage is in (rust?). But, if it is in decent shape.....and I had the extra room to store it..... I would be interested in it. 1970 L46? Oh, yeah....

Take some pic's of all the stuff you have, make a small description and list it on Flea Bay. These guys here will beat this thing to death.
It's true worth is what some one will actually pay for it and Flea Bay is the best place by far and the largest market with the most eyes looking. List it and let it fly. If you don't know how, have someone that
can do it correctly, always list with a reserve[minimum price]
If you really want to sell it, get out of here and list it on Craigslist and e-bay.
CL will be nothing but tire kickers but worth a try if you set a price, it's free.
Parting out is insane,10 times the work and you will still end up with half a car forever.

Hi all,
Okay . . . a quick update . . .
I decided that I am going to list the Corvette for sale . . . along with all the extra parts that I have for it.
I have made a list of a bunch of the extra parts and will list it all in one big ad in the Classifieds section.
Thanks, everyone, for your advice. I think it would be easier to take all the parts and just sell it all at once.

JoeVR5, Thank you for saving another chrome bumper shark. Too many people are "part it out, happy". Vette parts have always been worth a lot of money. Heck, I bet a brand new 1970 was worth more in parts when it was new, but I and most people would want the car. Lou.

Vote not to part it out. '70's are the lowest production stingrays, and the l46 is a great powerplant. Besides, the alternator alone is worth $700 unrestored as they are unique to AC and LT1 cars...
Good luck!
Good luck!

Rather sell something as a whole with all the extras make "some" instead of the headache and mess of parting things out. Big PITA unless you got hte time for cleaning sorting timewasting tirekickers emails calls trips to the post office etc.

The production numbers are very low for 1970 due to a strike in 1969 whcich extended the production run of the 69 models interrupting 70 production.
