I see they make that sting ray hood for the c3's except the 82...which I happen to own. Does anyone know where I can get one for the 82 or built at?
All the hoods are basically the same except for the 68 to 72 hoods. The latching mechanisms are different on the earlier ones. So if they have one for lets say a 77, it should fit.
BECAUSE if your 1982 STILL has the correct air cleaner.....your 82 has a unique hood that ONLY a 1982 needs....because it supplies fresh air to the air cleaner and it is sealed off via the rubber seal mounted to the underside of the hood.
The reason they are NOT adding the 1982 model year to it is because it WILL NOT have the special fresh air ducting to the air cleaner like the factory hood.
AND..as we all know and it is common knowledge by now. Anytime you can feed fresh cool air from in front of the radiator to the engine..the better it will run, perform, etc. Basically every car now-a-days is that way. No more open air filter elements that allow engine compartment heated air to be sucked into it.
The hood will bolt up and fit...but you loose the fresh air supply by doing so.
Is there some kind of air cleaner you can suggest so I can use that hood?
Maybe you did not understand what I wrote.
You do not need another air cleaner. It will work with this hood...BUT the only thing is that it will NOT have fresh air being pulled into the air cleaner in the center hole in the air cleaner lid because you will not have that fresh air ducting made into the hood you are referring to.
