I’ll be replacing my battery but noted some heavy corrosion on my 1980 corvette positive batter cable, I can replace the little threaded stud, but does anyone think the entire head needs to be replaced / does anyone know of a good way to clean this? I don’t want corrosion forming on a new battery! Even tho my stimulus money is paying for it
There were a couple old tricks from back in the 1800s (covered wagons). One was dipping that terminal end in a plastic cup with Coke.
The other trick was Baking Soda in a cup w/ water. Some use vinegar. Either one, wait 15 mins, then wire brush.
Those side post are useless for jump starting or attaching a charger. Really poor design.
So, take that short battery bolt to the hardware store. You want same diameter, same TPI. But you want 1 1/2" long. Plus one washer, one nut.
Thread the bolt / washer / nut, through the terminal until it just barely bottoms out (snug) inside the battery case. Use the nut to tighten down the terminal to the batterys contact area. Now you have an excellent connection and a bolt sticking out for alligator clamps.
