If you can find a 2008 era Anniversary ZL-1 probably in the 20K range by now. They built 427 of them that year. GM also built 200 454 ci ZL-1's in 2002. The blue GS to the left had one of the 2002 era ZL-1's in it. --- Ken

original ZL1 blocks engine from the 69-70s with the Winters snowflake are getting rare, like mentioned 20k+ is going rate
in additional to the anniversary ZL1, you could also by just the aluminum block over the parts counter for a number years. it was discontinued sometime, i want to say within the last 5 years.
it was around $5k thru GM performance over the counter. now i have seen then in the 10-15k range, depending on how complete it is.
I even know where one of these new blocks is sitting on an engine stand. owner wont sell.

So my trim tag says 4-7-69. If I restamp and drop this puppy in there, change the hood, M-21 to M-22, J56 brakes, shroudless radiator, throw away all the docs, then I can sell it for $150,000? Or maybe $5 million if I really decide to go big and make up a story....

It all comes down to what someone is willing to pay.
People with this kind of money could buy your very rare TRIBUTE car, drive it and enjoy it, for a fraction of the real thing. It would be the center of attention wherever it goes. Car’s & coffee?…ha
Or they could buy a DONK Escalade or a Porsche like thousands of others…

You could probably get the 150k, and tell the truth…

Hi, I own the white car in the listing.
I’ve heard/read lots of interesting takes on the car over the last few weeks.
the car is still available. As typical with eBay, the winning bidder backed out of the deal. After paying the initial deposit, he quit responding to me. I have a feeling he was trying to resell the car without paying for it.
regardless. It’s a great car, and a lot of fun.

Looks like a fun car and definitely got the attention of a lot of people! LOL
I can almost hear the questions at a Cars & Coffee...Aluminum block? ZL-1.... what? LOL
The consensus of those who are very knowledgeable on the forum, is that it is a factory L71 car that received that engine at a later date...
Do you have any idea when the engine was installed? Not that it makes much difference, but the story of a car like this is just as interesting as the stories of the factory 2..
I personally like the idea of Tribute cars, as I am building one myself. A ZR-1. I don't plan to sell, and the transition is completely documented...
But I can drive the hell out of it and enjoy it without the worries of driving a real, museum piece.
So what are your plans now? Another auction? May do better at Mecums or BJ...
With a few changes, (as mentioned on this thread) you have a real nice candidate for a spot on Tribute car...
Cheers!
Dale

unfortunately, I don’t know any history on the car. It all appears to have been together for a long time. It was parked for quite a while when I got it and the previous owner passed away.
it definitely looks the part, and to anybody that knows, it really creates conversation at any car get together.
Not sure what I’ll do next. It’ll stay available, and I’ll enjoy it until somebody else wants it.
