Doubtful - listing should have started at $100,000. Black book lists only 2, and with an auto?? If this car is real then it should have been at Mecums or Barrett-Jackson, not Ebay.

Don't think it's real as well but there must be some story with it that appears to be an original zl1 block

Very interesting for sure. Wish I could make out the tank sticker better, too bad it’s lost. Can’t see what it started life as but that’s not the wording used for the 390hp. I have to check my doc library at home. That might be L88 wording. Not positive. I would like to see that engine pad better but it’s still a ZL1 so that is pretty nice. Maybe it was an early dealer transplant car. That’s what many suspect the “real” orange car is. Gunmetal interior is pretty rare and with white. Odd. I wouldn’t mind getting this one whatever it is.

It’s not the orange convertible or the yellow hard top.
It’s also not listed for a million dollars.
This is a normal ‘69 with the aluminum 427 in it.

Only two rolled off the line...If one of these comes up for auction it will be 3 million plus...

https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/t...d-sell-for-3m/
But they did sell quite a few of these engines over the counter to racers...
Could be a dealer install but there should be some documentation.
I see it is an automatic with a 9 leaf rear...Should be an M22 with a F41 suspension...

F41 should have a 7 leaf...I think this was either a dealer install or a tribute car that someone built...
It isn't one from the factory or worth millions, but it should fetch a decent number for the fun of having one to drive without the worries... (well fewer worries...)

And the orange ZL1 is still and probably always will be in question. The tank sheet missing on this car is a big deal. It’s not an L88 if that tank sticker really is the original to the car as it’s missing the J56 brakes. Only one L88 came without that option and by special order.

You had to order the L88 before you could get the ZL1
I found this:
"Having to first select the $1,032 RPO L88 before adding the $3,000 RPO ZL-1, power-assisted, heavy-duty brakes came standard, as did the heavy-duty suspension package, a Positraction rear axle, and transistorized ignition. The list of what you didn’t get was equally impressive: radio, heater, air conditioning, power windows, and power steering. Even the fan shroud was omitted because it interrupted airflow. At $4,718, the outrageous supplementary price of the all-aluminum ZL-1 package and its required speed accoutrements more than doubled the base price of a new Corvette".

I stand corrected....The orange one came with the M40 auto....

I know you didn’t have to have the F41 with the L71 and you couldn’t order it with any other engine but I do think it was required on the L88. Not sure. Since the L88 is not on the original dealer retail order forms I’m not sure what is required. All other options on the order forms tell you what must be ordered with any particular engine.
Im sure it’s not a L88 as I said above, no J56. But it might have been an L71. I have to compare tank stickers when I get home.

I right clicked and opened in a separate tab so the image could be enlarged...

Who knows??? These were so special and I am sure favors were made at this level of special orders...
Interesting this car does not have a brake booster, but the other car does and the Sothby's listing states it was a standard option...
I would like to hear Stan's opinion on this one...It is all a bit over my mouse motor head...
I got that info from the Sothby's listing for the orange car...

It’s definitely not original. It’s a converted car. What might make it interesting is who did it, why and when, especially if it was a dealer thing. Or it could just be an over the counter back yard street racer. Which is no less interesting in some respects. Either way, the motor by itself is big bucks. I’m not ruling out evening buying it, just got no place to stick it right now.

It sure sounds good and would definitely attract an admiring crowd...Me included!
I currently have a 72 LT-1 low option convertible, and decided to do a nut and bolt, body off and build it back as a LT-1 / ZR-1 TRIBUTE ...J56, F41, M22, 3.55...
I don't plan to sell, I just plan to drive the hell out of it!
