Are Riverside Gold and Warbonnet Yellow the same?
I have not seen them side-by-side, but they sure appear similar.

Well, you can tell by the paint company codes. Here's the WBY codes. Maybe someone has the RG codes for comparison.
CODE COLOR LUCITE R-M DITZLER
989 War Bonnet Yellow 5292LM A-2464LF 2351

Don't have a pic of a '69, but here is a '73 in that color. It has more of a Yellow tone to it, the '69 more of a Gold tone.

Like Paul said, two totaly different colors which both happen to be my personal favorites of the colors put on the Sharks. When I was young I saw near everyday a lady in her Riverside Gold Vette with the below wheel covers and always said"one of these days"
I forget,in 68 and 69 what was the name of the wheel covers?

""I forget,in 68 and 69 what was the name of the wheel covers?""
P01 in '68, P02 '69-'73. Another interesting note. The '74 Dealer watercolor brochure shows a '74 pic with these P02's ON???
OR also known as ""Bright Metal Wheelcovers""

(The 1969 Riverside Gold (code 980) was Lucite # 5029-L
The 1971 War Bonnet Yellow (code 989) was Lucite # 5292LM
tom...)
Many years ago ... Don't recall the details ... but when "L" in DuPont lacquer is followed by another letter (as in WBY 5292LM) the following letter means a higher price than simply L. This because of certain paint colors/additives cost more. Red paints usually cost more than others ... often are an L"H" code. The L"M" of WBY is probably because it has more of the costly high-metallic component in it than the straight L of the RG. No, "M" is not codex for metallic ... it's price related.

Must be the lighting, because neither of those cars look like Warbonnet Yellow to me. (They both look super! BTW)

Hi,
Didn't War Bonnet become one of the most difficult colors to match/mix successfully when the change from acrylic lacquer to base coat/clear coat paints was made?
Regards,
Alan

I have both - an original paint '72 WBY and a '72 WBY PPG base/clear using the PPG code - they are very close to the same in color - not exact - but close. The bigger difference is in the metal flake ( 'firemist' ) - the original paint car has MUCH finer metal flake vs the PPG base/clear - which is a more modern day size flake.

Hi,
I agree about the size of the metallic causing 'issues'.
I believe I've heard someone give a seminar on the acrylic lacquer used on our cars and it was mentioned that the way the metallic is 'suspended' in the lacquer paint a bit difficult to duplicate in base/clear paints too.
Regards,
Alan
