UPDATE . Found another 454. This one is complete from the fan blade to the flywheel. It even has the starter, and only has 57,000 orginal mile on it. I will freshen up and change what is needed to include the oil pan to fit. I have also got ahold of a 4 core radiator. Will get some pics up soon.

I have put a 92-ish Gen-V 454 in my 71, and can say with some assurance that the Burban/truck oil pan on this motor hangs WAY too low, so I am interested in what you use for a pan on your motor.

My motor is also a low mile take-out. Installed for now, lost direction on the project (for 4-5 years!), but just want to get it running well enough so I don't have to push it. I hate pushing cars...

Good luck, gonna be watching

I plan on doing a late model 97' 454 vortec swap in the future. I will tweak it a bit but nothing to crazy,my car is a street car.
Going to bore it 60 over with a 4.25" stroke crank,6.385 rods and some forged pistons to get around 10:1 comp ratio. A set of decent heads, hopefully aluminum. Comp cams computer controlled cam 01-419-8 and bigger injectors, computer reflash etc.Probely will also need bigger throttle body.
It should have some decent grunt and still be a nice running streetable engine.
Engine i have is the same as this one,

the 454 I am picking up this morning is an 85, so its the same gen block that was originally used in the 70s. I will install a oil pan on the engine that was used on the vettes and all should be good. going to break it down to replace most of the gaskets, plus repaint the block. As I posted in the past, not out to beat anything on the road , just out for the feel of a big block. plus I am sure it will have a little more power than the 305 I stuck in 5 years ago to keep my vette on the road.

My 454 swap worked fine with the truck pulleys, and Alt mounts. Needs rewiring though.

Non power steering though, but you may want to check first. The stock style pulleys are expensive.

Maybe my oil pan wasn't stock, but it fit fine as well.

It did run hot with the radiator, but with a pusher fan it now stays cool.

Fun project all they way!

Thanks for the info about the oil pan. I thought I read others on here say the oil pan wouldnt work.
Anyways, I did buy it today and will start cleaning it up. I will add pics of it tomorrow.

Only thing I would suggest is a mild performance cam while its out of the vette, much easier to do if you are tearing into it too. Search peanut port 454 builds, and you will see small cams make good hp and huge torque with just headers and carb. If you are an auto this would be a real good engine after bolt on mods.

Small block radiator will cool that engine. I have a 496 in my 81 with the SB radiator, runs about 200°f in mid ninty degree weather. I would put at least a rv type cam in it with a new timing chain. That cam will boost torque and not empty your wallet. While the pan is off I would at least inspect the oil pump also.

I actually have the oval port heads, and I have been looking into a mild cam

I have the engine cleaned and painted. I have replaced the stock valve covers and gaskets. I just ordered a short water pump and fuel pump which I will put on this week. I also am getting the pulleys and brackets needed. Its slowly getting there, remember this is a budget build, dont have alot of coin.

It already has an rv cam in it. I have taken the valve covers and oil pan off. Motor is very clean. It only had about 58,000 miles on it. I am going to try it with the sb radiator in it. if it does not cool it, I will change it.

FWIW, I have a 502 in a '69 and the smallblock radiator cools it just fine. Never goes over 190. The smallblock radiator hoses will also work.

Summit has pulleys that will fit.

Also you need to use the tall mounts to clear the crank pulley/crossmember. I used the short ones because of the underdriven crank pulley on my motor was small in diameter and I needed hood clearance.

No you don't. The tall ones are too narrow and won't fit the frame mounts.

Like I said, Summit has pulleys that will work.
