Default Turbo Hydra-Matic on 1968 big block - painted blue? (pics)

Hi all,

There is one thing about my '68 427/400, which puzzles me a bit - as you can see in the pictures below, the automatic transmission has been painted blue. My understanding is that it has to be left unpainted, according to all books & illustrations, which I have seen. I am not sure, if this might have been done in the factory, or it is more likely that one of its previous owners did that during engine/transmission rebuild. Why should they do that? It has numbers matching engine block, heads, intake, carbs, etc.

Please let me know, what do you think about this. Thank you!

I would think it was done by a previous owner.

When my TH400 was done over this summer, the rebuilder gave me the choice of 3 colors. I opted for "Aluminum."

as posted above it could be an identification method by a transmission company......ie, Turbo Action and B&M use black and I have seen blue

It's been rebuilt by a local vendor most likely who uses that color to identify their work.
