Default 68 tire size max.........

Hi guy, just a quick couple of questions on my buddy's BB 68. 8 inch rally wheels, stock trailing arms. What's the widest 65R seiries tire you can run? I know 235's will work, but is that the widest? Thanks.

Second, where's the best place to get the longer spring hang bolts? The car has aluminum spacers on the diff and cross member, and sits a little high. Thanks.

This is for the 468-500+ mill we build last summer if you recall.

65R???

I've seen people force as wide as 295/50's onto 8x15's, but the widest secton width I'd suggest putting on an 8" rim of most any diameter is 255mm. IMHO it's hard to beat either 245 or 255 /60's on 8x15's, tho the latter have been known to rub up front on occasion.

Huh? Never heard of that. Got a pic? You can use stock bolts off a C4, they're slightly longer than C3.

Not handy Mike, but racers use them to take any slop (and comfort) out of the suspension. They look like aluminum hockey pucks.

He's got 215-65R 15's on the front, he just needs the rears. I told him I know 235's are normal for the 8in wheels, just wondering how big you can go. I thought 245's, or maybe 255's???? would be ok as well. thanks guys.

I know of those- but they don't affect ride height at all. Did your buddy change springs?

A solid diff locating kit (aka "pucks") should be beneath rather than above the diff cross-member with one replacing the pinion bracket rubber, doesn't really do all that much harm to comfort other than transmitting more noise and vibes into the chassis, and doesn't affect ride height at all. The only ones that go between the x-member and frame are those used for replacing the rubber bushings outright and facilitate raising the diff in the chassis to improve rear suspension geometry on lowered (rather than lifted) C2/C3's, and AFAIK shouldn't be visible.

I had nothing to do with the installation, haven't even looked at how they did it, but it looks wrong. Fender is about 5 inches above the tire. I know they will settle, but no that much!

Something is way wrong if the rear end is that high. Longer bolts is not the solution.

I have 255R/55/16 Comp TA's on 16x8 Chrome Ralleys. No problemo... She sits a little lower with this size tires.

It would seem so. If still that high with the suspension settled, first suspect I'd check out would be an overly arched spring, but then maybe they've gone and done something odd with the rear suspension. Pics would be very helpful, if at all possible.
