I use a Valentine 1, and my wife likes it a lot because it locates all the shopping centers by the door-opening radars they use! Motor trend just gave the Bel 980 a better review than the V1 because of price and sensitivity in the Ka band. Just don't buy the junk detectors under $200.

I've used a bunch of them. The V1 is by far the best. My biggest complaint with the new Passports is the plastic case. This took away the heat sink and lets the electonics inside fry. If you mount it on the windshield for best results, the Texas sun will cook it to inoperatable within a year. I had 3 passports repaired/replaced because of this. My V1 has been repaired once in the last 3 years and it was updated with new programming while it was in. All at no charge. I can't say enough good things about my V1! BTW, V1's case is magnesium. Probably one of the reasons the price is higher.

I use a Bell 845STi and it works just as well as Valentines on the Highway. This was proven coming back from Bowling Green. Granted mine was 3' higher (in a truck vs Corvette) but I was receiving signals before the guys using the Valentine. I will buy another Bell when the time comes. The Valentine has some neat features, but I can't justify twice the price.

I have an Escort 4600 which is the forerunner to the Escort 8500. I have had it for about 4 years now, ran all over the eastern US and never got caught with it on. It is also excellent preventing false alarms like at automatic doors which the cops sometimes use. If I had $300 to spend, I'd buy the 8500 in a heartbeat. Not that I ever speed! :blueangel:

I picked up the stand alone K40 unit for $200 and it has worked flawlessly for the few weeks I have owned it. It doesnt false everytime I drive by a grocery store and it has given me plenty of warning to slow down. So far I am very pleased.

The speedzone article is the best I have seen. Looks like the Bel or ERscort is equal to the Val 1. It looks like a professional evaluation to me and I will go with it. Thanks. Sid. md it
