Like many, the TV series Route 66 first got me interested in the Corvette. That was the early 60's and I bought my Ruby as a 50th birthday present to myself. I've had plenty of rides, one in each generation of Corvette, but the Ruby caught my eye like no other. :seeya

It took me three months to find one that was in the condition I wanted and could afford. I wish I had bought one sooner.

I wanted one since about 1962 .. Route 66 on TV. In '63 I was able to drive a new Stingray, which set me up for a terrible car lust, with no means to get one.
Finally got one last year .. so, that's nearly 40 years! About time, I'd say. This year (in a few weeks) #2 arrives.

I fell in love with a '63 split window coupe in a showroom in the spring of '63.
Got distracted by college, marriage, kids, etc. Realized in Dec. '99 that I could finally be selfish, fell in love all over again with this one in Jan. 2000, almost 37 years later.

Wanted one since I first saw the 63 Stingray at age 10. Finally after kids are thru college and on their own, I got serious and started looking late in 2000. Bought mine in Jan, 2001. So it took me about 38 years!!

In 1969 my scoutmaster had a 63 coupe. It was OK but kind of ratty.
Then in 1970 one of my elementary school teachers bought a new 71 that was to die for. Wanted one ever since, always thought that even the used ones were more expensive than I could aford.
Fast forward to November 2000, wife #2 and I decided that it was time to realize our dreams and indulge in things we wanted. Then we found out how affordable the C4s were and found one this spring.
So I guess that makes it 31 years for me!
Enjoy the heck out of them and drive it!

In 1989, at the age of 54, I realized that both children had left the nest and been provided a good education; the wife had the house of her dreams (she designed it and helped build it) and a new car, so I Corvette shopping and located and purchased a 1988, red, Z51, 4+3, coupe with 3200 miles and one year old. Bought it from a man who already had 2 children with a third on the way and a REAL need to get a station wagon or van. Payed off his loan and drove the car away; best decision I ever made. Drove that Corvette as a daily driver until 2000 (125K miles) when I bought a 96, LT1. Handed off the 88 to my son who is a mechanic and can keep it running forever. Vettes rule.

I've wanted one since I was in HS. I was seriously drooling over them in College - especially in '84 when the C4s came out. Back in '90, right after I got married I almost bought a red '72 BB convertible, but we ended up remodeling the bathrooms insted. Then it was a cross country relocation and we had our daughter. Finally in '99 I was able to get my '70 Convertible (loaded, 44k mi, purchased from the original owner). About a year after that Greg decided he needed another hot rod project, so the '65 Pro Street shell of a Corvette showed up. A few months after that I sold my Rustang and then spent 2 months hunting for an early yellow C4 convertible for my daily driver. So I guess it took a while, but we're making up for lost time these past 18 months or so. :jester

I was bitten by the sports car bug at age 16 (many years ago![](http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif)
) when I drove a red TR3. From then on, I loved anything with 2 seats and a stick shift!! Had many sports cars over the years but never had a Corvette until Hubby and I bought an 85 coupe in January 1992. It was all over then!! We will always have a Corvette now!! Sold the 85 3 years ago, bought the 74 orange convertible, soon followed by the 88. And we came very close to buying a 98 triple black convertible in Carlisle last week!! Maybe next year :chevy

Thiry years, which is way too long!!! Fell in love with my neighbor's yellow stingray which had some sort of weird blue and green design painted on the bottom half of it, when I was 8 or 9. Used to look at my window and draw pictures of it. Then this past year, my Dad was found dead in the back yard, my doctors thought I had cancer, and I was turning 40. Decided it was now or never...always loved black C-4s, took about a month to find a decent one. I was so nervous picking it up, I could hardly step on the gas or brake 'cause my legs were shaking so bad!!! My mother hates it... says of all the stupid things i'v done, this is the worst!!! She thinks I should be fixing up the old house I just bought. I say the house will be here long after I'm gone!!! Thanks for listening to me vent, no one else understands my vette fever!!!Good luck in your quest!!! :seeya

The short answer is TOO LONG!!
I was a teen when the fever started, and it took 40 years. I purchased my first vette at age 54 and I'm now 59..NEVER TOO YOUNG TO START, I SAY!! But, wish I had done it early. I meet a lot of people outside the vette world that believe vettes are very expensive to get into and own. They are, in many cases, not aware of the good bargains out there on well maintained vettes.
