Default AC Conversion to R-134a

Who's converted their AC to 134?

Whats involved, does it work any better than R12?

I just put a new engine in my car and since the A/C is empty I thought I might go with R134, but want to know if its worth doing or should I stay with R12.

I don't know about the Corvette A/C system but, I did a conversion on an '84 Trans-Am and it was just as good as the R-12.

I had a compressor go bad on me so I flushed the system, put in a new orafice tube, replaced all the seals, pulled a vacuum on it and charged it with the oil and 134-A that comes with the kit and I was in business.

Any thing besides open windows here in Florida is an improvement. Mine worked fine to me.

I converted my '85 about a year and a half ago. I needed a new compressor, so when I swapped it out I bought the 134 kit for $40 from the parts store. I didn't even pull a vacuum on the system and it turned out great. Temps at the outlets were high 40's when the air was in the 90's outside. Worked great.

Lloyd, I looked into this as my daughter's A/C just bit the dust. I ever called the manufacturers. They are not doing this anywhere near my home. I was told that they are reluctant since they have to have another evacuation system (R-12, R-134, R-12 replacement) and the shops don't want the expense. They look real good from what I have read though.
