I4 Camry vs Corvette performance test. - the gauntlet has been thrown down!
...A stopping race. That's right, go side by side at 50mph, and hit a certain point to see who can stop first. He's SURE that his 93 camry i4 w/rear drums and ABS will outbrake my 86 Corvette. His car is lighter, and he has brand new brakes. The rears were completely replaced. I insist it seems to stop faster because the car has a severe amount of brakedive, but he won't have it! Now I know there has to be something wrong with my brakes, the pedal still has too much travel, I don't know if it's stopping like normal, and the pedal somewhat pulses slowly (But doesnt wobble, vibrate, or pull) when I stop normally, and the left front wheel will lock up now and then when I brake hard. There's a few bucks on the line.
So what do you think, I4 camry in peak condition 50-0, or 86 Corvette, unknown brake condition, 50-0 ?
I know my stopping distance is 135ft factory, and I have better tires now. He has crappy tires, and his factory 60-0 is unknown.

That depends.. Is there a wall at the end? Then I would think stopping would be identical. :)
But seriously? I have a 95 Camry and I feel safer in my Vette. My Camry will and has slipped on lane markers. And it has newer tires!! :)

I feel safer in the vette too, because it doesn't go around 90' corners at 60mph, get spun in the rain, or drive into huge puddles.

I would not put any money on my brakes! They have come a long way in the last 15 years. Mine suck compared to newer cars. Bet him in the 1/4 mile instead! Guy

Umm.... my best friend owns a '94 Camry. I'm familiar with the (lack of) braking power. Her pads were shot, so I replaced everything just for piece of mind..... well, at least the scraping noises went away. Didn't stop any better. :)

Re: (scorp508)
It (The Camry) makes a lot of noise when it stops. We haven't been able to make the squeeling stop.
Oh well.
We've already raced in a straight line. I beat him in front of a couple cops without drawing any attention.
But I know for a fact he'd beat me in the corners.
He'd be willing to ditch the car just to win.. while I err in the side of caution

Re: (Smash)
Smash the pulsing pedal is a cracked or warped rotor I'd fix it and then I'd cheat a little just for the :jester factor get some hawk performance pads and warm up the brakes first then you shouldent have any trouble and should get a good

Leave it to a ricer to come up with that lame test. Who cares!

I asked the wife if she wanted to try it w/ her 94 camry and my 85 vette. She looked at me like I'm crazy  . I guess we'll have to wait for you to do it.
