I have a Black 94 Coupe, LTI. It has the original Black factory seats, nothing special or changed. I was trying to figure out if they were vinyl or some kind of leather.
Any thoughts?

I had heard Corvettes and all GM cars (and many other brands) were made that way...including those in my '80, '91 '97 & '01 Cadillacs (my last Cadillac; never again junk). Never really looked closely at the Vettes to verify the leather/Vinyl combination vs what were on the Cadillacs.

So I guess leather it is... mine are so old and worn that it's a little hard to tell... but I put LEXOL on them this morning and was wondering if it is the right stuff.
As to the gentleman who gave me a lead on new covers, that was helpful too.. in that I probably need a replacement about now.
Thanks again.

I had always heard all '94's had leather seats but checking the '94 brochure noted it reads (on page 9) "These leather-trimmed sport seats .... " and (on page 13 - describing the "standard" seats) "All-new bucket seats feature soft leather seating surfaces."
I happened to go back and read those after stopping one day at an established upholstery shop we've used in the past for furniture but which also does a lot of auto upholstery. The owner came out to look at my car, mentioned he had done new seats in a '93 and I asked "leather or vinyl?" and he surprised me saying "vinyl just like the original". I told him mine were leather and he said they weren't and then proceeded to show me the underside of my sport seat cushion and it was clearly vinyl. So who knows what part is vinyl and what part is "leather trim" or whether they're all the same.
I do know that Corvette America's leather sport seats are billed as "100% leather" and I believe Al Knoch's are the same.

Hi guys, I have worked in the aftermarket for about 15 years and installing leather interiors in new cars is a large part of our business. I can tell you that most leather interiors, factory or otherwise, have a mix of both-leather and vinyl. In fact many OEM interiors use cloth for the panels that are not visible, like next to a shifter console for instance. If you look closely you will find that the side panels and seat-backs are made of vinyl. Usually only the inserts and bolsters are actually made of real leather. Most people never notice. Also, a seat cover made completely of leather is also a lot more difficult to install because it doesn't stretch as easily, even with steam. Look closely at the seats the next time you get into a car with leather-Dave B.

I have done collector car upholstery for the last 25 years or so. I find that leather is very easy to work with and will stretch quite well. I am not saying you are wrong. Your experience could be different from mine. I actually prefer working with leather instead of vinyl.
