Default Interior lights not working when doors open 1995 vette

1995 corvette
All my inside lights work with the overide **** around the light switch but when I open the doors they don't come on.
When my doors are opened my security light flashes on the dash so I am assuming my door switches are working.
This is a new vette for me only owned it a week just trying to get everything working.
Thanks all

Get a service manual from www.helminc.com or find one on ebay. Try to get a red book as they were the final version.

Familiarize yourself with a test light and follow the diag tree. That will be the best way to troubleshoot. More than likely you have a short.

There is a sensor that determines if the interior lights are needed (day or night). If the car is in bright light the interior lights will not come on.

Check the switch in the door, sometimes the plunger in the switch sticks.Sounds too simple but Ive seen it happen.

Where did you come up with that?

Yes there is a ambient light sensor, but not for that reason.
It controls the light level output of the instrument panel, not the interior courtesy lights.

You can park your car in direct sunlight and the courtesy lights "should" come on if you open the doors.

I agree with Z51JEFF.
That is the most likely cause.

Larry came up with that from the FSM.

The FSM suggests covering the light sensor with black tape before proceeding with further diagnosis.

If I am wrong, then I'll admit it.
But I still don't believe that sensor actually affects the courtesy lights.

I've parked my car in direct sunlight many times, and when you open the door the courtesy lights come on.

I have also experienced what you would see as a light level adjustment when you cover the sensor, but that only affected the instrument panel lights.

Courtesy Lamps: Directly from my owners manual. "When any door is opened, the interior lamps will go on (unless it's bright outside)". "The lamps will stay on about 30 seconds or until you turn on the ignition". I have noticed when in bright sunlite the courtesy lights will not come on. This is a 1995 model.

Larry,
I just looked and have that same information in the owners manual of my '96.
I have opened my doors many times in bright sunlight, and could swear the courtesy lights do come on. But maybe I am just "seeing things", I don't know.

I apologize for making it sound like you were wrong.
Guess I need to get my car out in the sun.

Open door. On trailing edge of door there is a black pylon gadget. That's the door ajar switch.

You can try lubing it with a little WD40 to see if that helps. The plunger pin in the center is the portion that makes contact. It's fragile so take it easy.

Default dome lights

Ok I have checked everything I think.
I am just about convenced its that light sensore on the dash.I think it could be broken.
What else is that sensor for?
I wonder if maybe I could wire the wires together if it would work??
Anyone have any idea how it works????

The CCM apparently receives output from the ambient light sensor in particular counts......

You can check the function of ALS using the CCM diagnostic fuction.

I have the chart & can send it to you.

One other question...have you checked fuse #36 in the I/P fuse panel.

advise.

I had the same problem with my 95 vert. I changed both door jam plungers and everything works correctly now.

Like I said, get the service manual. The steps to follow will pin point you in the right direction and also in a quick manner.

If you are planning on keeping your C4 and working on your C4, you must have the service manual.
