well i have owned 3 c4's, 84, 90, and now a 94... each one has its own, my 84 was an extremely good handling car, very cutting edge for its day being able to pull 1 G in the skidpad, nice styling, state of the art styling, i liked the 90 because it was a mix of the old with the new, early body with the newer interior, but now the 94, IMHO that car is the cats meow for me, its only got 60K on the clock, runs smooth, and practly new in and out, and for some reason i love the color combo.... trip red

It's a subjective thing. I like um both, but I think I prefer the newer body style - but that's just me.
A little bit OT, but I always get tickled when a GS guy comes all apart when someone has the audacity to build a tribute GS. Oh, give me a break...We're only talkin cosmetics here, and for all that a special VIN number too???
This is what a GS should have been based on...IMO
Now if there is another group that has a better reason to cry foul, I would ask the GS fans how they would feel about having the factory cop a unique feature that distinguishes their series from the rest (e.g. the hash marks) and start slapping it on base models?
The ZR-1 made considerable waves (and still does) in GM and the Corvette owners community. Among "other things" the convex rear facia and rectangular tail lights initially distinguished a ZR-1 from the base model. However, there was an element of resentment toward the ZR-1 held by some in GM (not invited to participate in the project) within the Corvette division, and certainly an amount of that too (or at least envy) on the part of the car buying public**.
In any case, in 91 (or was it 92?) the new "look" was installed on all C4 Corvettes, including the rear facia that had been unique to the Z. Some wonder if it wasn't done to dillute that ZR-1 envy/resentment among the Corvette buying public by offering at least a cosmetic compromise. Some of those who paid out twice the base price for RPO ZR-1s felt they "owned" the new look too, and were very miffed at GM for "stealing" that rear facia they considered part of what separated the Zs from the base cars. Mebby so. And, if that weren't enough, in 92 the LT1 certainly was a factor toward narrowing the gap between the ZR-1 and the base offering.**

I can sorta see how some feel strongly about atributes unique to a certain series within a series of cars. But, I say there are two sides to the Corvette hobby: There are waxers and there are warriors. And, as for the warriors (as I think most Corvette AND ZR-1 drivers tend to be) it seems as a group they are apparently much less likely to get their panties in a wad over the superficial or subtle stuff: not much fussing came from them.
The waxers, however, tend to favor the NCRS & GS side of the hobby, and it is they who get worked up (BLASPHEMY!) over cosmetic changes: by GM or otherwise.
Folks are welcome to the Corvette hobby for whatever reason. Some tend to be purely waxer or warrior, and some (most?) are in the middle. I favor the warrior side, and as for the body styles differences, I'm split like 60/40 in favor of the newer style, but BOTH look very good to me. (Sorta like choosing a favorite child, or something!).

Thanks for your comments Paul.
I too am somewhat split, but I do favor the early body style.
I am lucky enough to own a 1990 ZR-1 which I consider to be the best looking C4 with the early front end and later rear end (only wider )
And, Paul, your beast is a warrior, but it looks like it has a nice coat of wax on it too

I prefer the later 91-96, also.
The belt line trim doesn't match from early to late. If you do a bumper swap, you would have to change all of the trim to complete the look.
Click this link, to see comparison pics between the 2.

Ok...I confess. I like "purdy" too. But, because I DON'T like to have to fuss with it every week (rather terrorize the blacktops or twisties up your way), I ended up using Zaino to cut the fussing waaaaay down.
