Nice that you don't have to pay to have the title switched over. I would be tempted to just put some tires on and drive it as is.

the top paint is just gone.brown on the bottom looks perfect.car was very nice 10 yrs ago.it needs a lot of work,it may not make sense to many why i would restore this 85 corvette,my first corvette was like this one right down to the two tone odd color combination'so it has a personal .appeal to me.getting this car 10 yrs later for $1500 after selling it for 6k was a thrill.l have already ordered wires.plugs.dist cap.injectors.new tires, new leather seats on foam.i have spent more on parts than purchase price of the car.,getting it paited next week.
changing all fluids and cleaning fuel system.after carpet.new steering wheel, upgrade stereo.even at the give away price ,i will still have in it more than its worth.lol. motor and trans are working gteat, car has under 100 k miles.i am just as pumped to get this c4 fixed as i am finishing up a few things on a 68 camaro i have been restoring.

I don't think it's crazy that you would want to restore it. You got a great deal on it and it holds a ton of sentimental value to you so I say, go for it! I've been trying to buy back my first Corvette for some time as its languishing in a driveway. It's an 84 with the 4+3 and the owner and I have been talking about it. I completely understand where you're coming from.
It was beautiful 10 years ago and will be beautiful again! Csnt wait to see the updated pictures of the car!!

This is so cool to see. Those 10 years in the barn were not kind to her but it definitely sounds like you've got the know-how to make it all right. Can't wait to see the update pics as the work progresses.
I also understand the impulse to restore this car even if it doesn't financially make sense, per se. My first car was a bright red '94 Chevy Lumina sedan and although I've never heard anybody other than me say they liked the styling on that car, I'd buy it back in a heartbeat if I could find it! (If it still existed, that is; I imagine it's been turned to scrap by now).

Congrats on the return of your "boomerang" '85!
I've only had one vehicle boomerang on me...unfortunately it wasn't any of my prior 'vettes, It was, of all things, a 1992 S15. It went from me, to my dad, to my brother-in-law (who did absolutely nothing to maintain the truck), then came back to me again. It looked great when it first left, and as you can see, horrible when it came back. But I fixed that This was the vehicle I cut my teeth on for panel welding and paint. I've reworked and painted all of my own cars since then. If you're considering doing the same to your '85, be inspired by what you can do yourself if you put your mind to it.
On it's return:
