Default Corvette Mechanic Needed

Hi To All
My buddy and I live in SE Iowa a hop and skip from Illinois and Missouri. I have a 95 and he has a 90 corvette . We need to find a mechanic who can tune the 90 and do bushings work on both cars. We understand that we will have to travel as that is not a problem. So we would appreciate any advice from the knowledgeable members of this forum.
Thanks Hawkeye56

Any good mechanic can do this. No travel necessary
Your vettes are just cars

I wish that was true at our location. No one will tune the 90 with in a 50 mile radius of home.
Three difference shops have attempted to do the bushings on the 90 even a local Chevrolet dealership and all have screwed up the parts.
so please someone should know someone.
Thanks Hawkeye56

Good grief. It's just a 350 chevy!

With three corvette clubs that I know is in Iowa I find it hard to believe that no one can recommend a mechanic shop who does corvette repair. Down here in SE Iowa it is not hard to find a shop to buy tires or get a oil change, If you ask for more than that they do not want to work on the car or if they do it is screwed up more than when you dropped it off. So I would hope that corvette forum community could recommend options for the tri state area of Iowa, Mo, & IL. We are not opposed to driving a couple hundred miles for good work and fair prices.
Thank You For All replies

Here on the forum there is a separate group of "regions". You might consider posting your request for recommendations in the Great Lakes regional section. More likely to get responses from folks in your neck of the woods!

Corvette clubs in your area of the country are also a great source for finding a trusted shop.

Ive ran into this pushback too.

so i feel the OP’s pain.

mechanics want the familiar bread and butter jobs.

i bought the service books, tools, and made sure i had a nice cozy garage and started doing the work myself

now, if i need a bushing pressed out/installed , a rotor turned, etc. i will take the part out myself / take it to a machine shop.

obviously alignments - im at someone else’s mercy. But I found a couple guys i can trust

Exactly. I remember when all the men in the neighborhood would work on their cars on the weekend. I can’t believe there are so many who have never turned a wrench or even know how to check their oil. Very sad. Fixing your own car used to be right of passage for men. Too busy getting their nails done I guess.

The sad truth is if you can't work on a old C-4 or don't have access to an old C-4 mechanic need to sell it . Yes it is a 350 Chevy BUT a Corvette and an 350 Impala its not , some of the Ele. stuff way more compacted . I do 75% of the work on my old 93 and I am living in Houston and a Corvette shop on every block still finding one that will not force you to sell the farm for the work they do and finding one that knows anything about anything is like finding a good wife at 2am at the bar .. If can't work on it can't find anybody that will work on it SELL it or if you got to pay someone to work on it soon you will have enough money in it to buy a newer one .. What do I know well never been without at least one and at times had seven for 50+ years. Save yourself a headache , Can't work on it sell it ! These thing can and will make you CRAZZY ,save yourself .. Its too late for me, LOL..

Owning a performance car that is soon to be 26-36 years old (I think) demands the car be considered a "hobby", and anyone buying one should either be able to do most of the 'light' mechanical restoration him/herself, OR be prepared for the wallet to suffer and to be frustrated too.

Hawkeye56: Here in the Chicago area
specializes in Corvettes of all vintages. And, I can highly recommend http://beglersautorepair.com/ in Wilmington, IL (top notch shop!) and across the street from Begler's is https://www.ronsexhaustandtire.com/Auto-Repair/cat/wheel-alignment/svc/four-wheel-alignment shop.
Wilmington, IL is about 2-1/2 hours drive east on I-80 and 5 minutes south on I-55 from the Mississippi River crossing. IF you have to come this far to find a decent mechanic, you won't be disappointed. (Call first for appointments.).

So you are suggesting that if I do not do the mechanic work myself that I should sell it.
That is a load of crap when you know nothing about myself or health. I can do little things but as example if I tighten a bolt with a wrench I will feel like I crapped my self. I personally hope you never have to experience the horrible joint pain as I have to. As far as selling the car No Way in H!!! I no longer can enjoy motorcycles So I have a load of fun with my 95.
The reason for this post was to locate corvette mechanic at a reasonable distance.
Thanks Hawkeye56

gotta admit some people cannot answer answer a simple question without making a fool of themselves. Totally unnecessary to mock people . Oh and you better know i am a real man , not an arrogant mouth piece .

Have been dealing with old Corvettes for 50+ years . I had my A/C rebuild this summer $1500.00 rear end went out another $1800.00 was just saying if one can't fix big stuff that might and can and properly go wrong sooner or later with one these old C-4s you can get more money in a C-4 that they are worth and is something to think about . One can get upside down in a C-4 quick .. Something else to think about 'chill its all good ..
