Gonna be honest, the original leather is total crap compared to the aftermarket options. Want soft leather that will last? Aftermarket. Want to spend big bucks of hard crappy leather, by all means go for it.
IMO, if you can get a good quality piece, that's what matters. On my last C6 grand sport I used door will trim from a salvage yard. It looked perfect, and I didn't even notice. Your car is used, it you can get nice quality used parts for the interior, why not use them?
It might not end up concours quality, but this is a 60k mile zr1 we are talking about, not a 60 mile 1 of 1 custom made for someone important.
I actually meant real leather, not the vinyl's or leatherette replacements that you can get for cheap. After 25-30 years, good used interior parts are hard to come by. Most of the used parts you find have the same problems as the ones you are replacing. ZR-1s are held to a higher standard than base models. A rough ZR-1 is usually equivalent to a nice base model. That said, rough or nice, they both drive the same.
Well......Here she is, in all her glory. Possibly the ugliest ZR1 in existence. Go Rockets tho, am I right??? It says "Back to Back World Champs" on the back..... so trashy haha. So it turns out the car does NOT run very well, but I bought it at a price that I am happy with. So the plan is to restore it, but not to stock. It's far gone enough that I won't ever sell as a Mint ZR1, so I am going to build it how it suits me, which I think will be somewhere between a street car and a track car, but still street legal. All the interior is trash. Will replace with custom seats and fix up the rest as I see fit. Going to keep the LT5 obviously, but will port, headers, tune and mod it and I am shooting for a 500hp engine. Needs paint......very quickly haha. LOTS more questions to follow as I learn more about ZR1s and LT5s, but for now...... what would you do to this car? Ever since I owned my 1995 LT1 a decade ago I have dreamed of owning a C4 ZR1, not necessarily in this bad of shape, but I am still a happy guy over here!!!
black on saddle is a very nice color combo. before painting I would see if you can peal of those stickers and have the car professionally detailed and buffed. you might be surprised what that will do to old tired paint. unless the pictures are making it look better then it really is.
Personally i could care less what it costs to maintain my car. If I was worried about the cost of replacement parts I bought the wrong Corvette.
I say just buy what you want, spend what you want, drive what you want, make it like you want, and above all have fun.
This!!!!
Fred said it too todays "leather" is not real leather. I got quoted by a good but reas shop 8 yrs ago. Over 2k for 2 seats done right with the real thing. Showed him pics of the seats told him for a Jeep he knew better lol
Why in the hell would anybody do that to a ZR-1,as stated I’d have the body detailed first to get it looking better then I’d work on the trouble areas. At 60,000 miles that car is just broke in,what was the price if you don’t mind me asking?
Ouch that is an ugly interior, but for your plans I can see it looking very sharp once completed. If you got for a good price I don't think you can do wrong.
Great video! Most of the problems you have are what we call C4 generic - common to many, if not most, C4s that are not ZR-1s. Look forward to hearing more of your progress.
