Greetings, I have two used side view mirrors that have wind deflectors riveted onto them like in the video below. I didn't put them on. Someone else did, but there are three holes in each mirror. See the 1:55 minute mark of the video to see how big the holes are. The used mirrors are dark blue, and I'm having a body shop paint them black to match my '89, but I'm thinking about drilling out the rivets BEFORE they paint them black and removing the wind deflectors, and asking the body shop to fill the holes. I can always tape the deflectors on in the future if I wanted to use them. But my question is about filling those holes. It seems the side view mirrors are metal. Do you think that filling these holes and painting them would hold up, or do you think the filler in these holes would soon crack. I know the bodyman/painter doing the job makes a huge difference, but I'm having the paintede at a GM dealership, and considering asking them to fill them. May be a silly question, but thank you for any thoughts as I determine a way forward on this. I always appreciate your input.
I personally would leave them on! They originally came on the convertibles, but many people have added them to their coupes. They are very functional for diverting airflow as well as aerodynamic! I have them on my '84 and love them! Search images of coupes with them and see if you can notice the appeal, you may come to regret removing them....excellent upgrade....keep'em on👍
edit: at the very least, if you just don't like them, source a pair of mirrors without....someone would be happy to trade you or buy your's, please don't drill and fill!
Remove the deflectors and add them back after the mirrors are painted. Is there a reason you're not transferring the mirrors that are the correct color now?
Thank for your comment '78Corvettes, I have been looking for images of coupes with the wind deflectors to see if I like the look of them, but cannot find any. I really only found that youtube video I posted, but if anyone has any images or links of coupes with the deflectors please post them. I would really like to get an idea how they look overall to make a decision. Thank you.

To answer your question WVZR-1, the black mirrors on my doors now could be transfered to the used doors that are being installed on my car on August 15th, but the dealer won't paint them under warranty, and they have some small pits on them from sand and rocks. They could be transfered over though, but I may have to pay labour to do that and it's something I know the dealer would rather not do. Long complicated story short, the GM dealer messed up the paint on the doors on my car now. Both doors are toast. So I made a deal with them to install and paint two used doors I'm having shipped to them, but those doors are dark blue and come with wind deflectors. They need to be painted black to match my car, but I don't know how I feel about the deflectors and the three holes drilled into the mirrors. I'm considering removing the deflectors as you mentioned and adding them back after the mirrors are painted, but if I don't like the deflectors (or maybe they won't fit my car doors are shut) I'll be left with two mirrors with three holes in them. This is the dilemna, at least for me. I need to see some coupes with the deflectors on them to see if I like the look. If anyone has pics please post them or a link. Thank you again for your help as I try to figure this out.
I installed the deflectors on my 91 and noticed a huge difference. I rarely run the ac and go windows down. Today, I was going 70mph on the interstate with the windows down and wind noise/inside winds were not a problem. Much better than before I had them. I don’t care if they do look like and add-on feature, they are very functional. Of course, I never have given much a care about what others think….
Two pics with deflectors, one before deflectors. One with my son’s sh&t eatin’ grin.

Thanks. A guy practically gave it to me a while back. What a great deal I got!!
I know first hand how windy it was in the cockpit at speed, kind of like sandblasting my face. Your son looks like he's had some great driving experiences behind the wheel.
Isn't there a substantial difference in the GM/OE installed on 'verts and the after-market? I don't know that I've ever seen an 'exact replica' of OE/GM product.
They were factory installed on some coupes too (my mom's brand new 1987 had them from the factory) they work surprisingly well if you like the windows open

I believe only early '87 coupes might have gotten these from BGR as originals. I've seen it mentioned a couple times 'many' years ago. It might be interesting to see if there were 'Build Sheet' notes.
I put a set on my 85 with the double sided tape. How ever they are installed, the deflectors are absolutely worth it. Really cuts down on wind buffeting. If you want to improve on airflow even further, a hatch vent is also a worthwhile addition for coupes.
