I removed the center of the shift ****, and exposed the metal key that holds the shifter tight, but now do you get that darned thing out? I tried to wiggle it back and forth with pliers and tried prying it up with a big ol' screwdriver, but I couldn't get it loose.
Any suggestions?

Hey
First off no matter what you do, do it carfeully so as not to harm the leather shift ****.
First time it did I followed the directions from and old corvette fever Mag. They suggested using a screwdriver like tool but it was curved at the end, I did find sucha thing at Home depot, then I used an old piece of leather and laid it over the area of the **** the "screwdriver" would be pressing on. This worked after much more sweat then I figured, and tyhe little metal thing gat a little screwed up.
Second time I used a vise grips and really beat it out of there, needless to say more damage the the little pos that hold the shift **** on..
Now I have a Flameball shifter and love it, plus it lights up at night....

It tried the vise grip thing.
In the end the only way I got it out was to drill it out
I've got a shift **** from Hardbar on it now.

Keep wiggling or rather fighting:boxing with the pliers or visegrips, if it comes up enough the front of the pin has an undercut that you can pry upwards on. I use the open end of a small wrench (the curved side) to get under this "lip", you may still have to hit the wrench:smash: with something to get it loose, but this has been working for me. I am looking to cure this later on with either a modified peg or an aftermarket ****! Hope this helps.

I used a 6" pry bar. It has a curved end that just fit under the lip. Protect the leather ****. :smash: If drilling out the key is the only option the aluminum key(pins) are GM Part# 10150014. They're $4.48 each Dealer retail price around the Phila. area. If the dealer has to order the part they come in a bag of 5. :(

I used a pliers and then while pulling with one hand I hit the edge of the shift **** with a rubber mallet and it came out. Still a PITA. I didn't put the wedge back in, I don't see any use to it, it's never going to come off unless I unscrew it.....imho.
