Default Y-Pipe vs. X-Pipe (looking for ballsier sound)

Is it better to go with an X-pipe than a Y-Pipe. What are going to be the major differences between the sound? Im thinking about going with an X-pipe has anyone done this on their LT1/4 if so where did you get your parts?

wow... that's apples and oranges.

The x-pipe is actually tuned to better expell gasses. It creates an opposite bank vacuum effect.

The y-pipe merges 2 pipes into 1 and keeps them there. Check the stock 1984-1991 exhaust systems.

an H is much like an X, but not as nicely tuned. The x is still better.

I'm looking at the Corsa system that I got for my LT4....is it just straight through?!? I dont see any Y merge or is the resonator the merge? Pretty much im just wondering what an X-pipe will be like on my LT4? The Corsa is great and all but just not loud enough for me...doesnt sound real mean...

On the Corsa system, just before the resonator tubes, there is an h-pipe. If you want to make the Corsa system growl, replace the resonator. I did this, and used a Magnaflow X-pipe. I have to warn you......it will resonate like crazy. My wife absolutely hated the car.

Is there something I want to look for when buying an x-pipe...or do I just get the x-pipe and then buy tubing accordingly and just "make it work"? Also wont sound deadening material put under the rear carpet help with the noise?

I just bought the X-pipe and took it to an exhaust shop. They welded the extra tubing. As for sound deadening to help with noise...... I thought you wanted it louder?

If you have the X-pipe put in, and then find that it's too loud, or not to your liking, have the resonator put back in.

Sorry I meant interior noise deadening....Im just trying to improve the exterior sound. I will do what you said and have the x-pipe put in at an exhaust shop. How much did it cost you to have that done?

well, the x-pipe, if anything, should smooth out the sound. But it has to be put in absolutely the right spot.

If I remember rightly, take a temp gun and once up to temp, check the pipes for the coolest spot, that's where the x-pipe should go.

This is exactly what I am toying with. I have talked to a guy on ebay that sells the X-pipe for my 93 and he tells me that the x-pipe won't make the car any louder. I made the mistake of not buying the cat back system and just bought the borla muffler. I love the external look, but the growl is still not there yet. I was wanting to take off the resonator as well, I guess I'll try the x-pipe and see what it does.

Should have gone with Corsa system and I'd be done with it....never counts to cut corners and try to stay cheaper
