My 85 master, part # 14080223 is +/-$173.

Why would a non ABS master be that much more for my 85 vs an 86-7?

Finally, will an 86-7 be fine in my 85, w/o the ABS provision?
Thanks, Joe

I just replaced my MC with a Cardone. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. When I transferred the reservoirs o the new master I lubed the seals with brake fluid and used a small screw driver to work the seals on. You need to be careful not to nick the seals but it can be done. I think the biggest problem with the MC is the seals giving up.

I also would like to add that some people have had trouble getting all the air out of the MC before installing. I had to bleed it some and let it sit for about 5 minutes and bleed some more. I found that the air bubbles that were in the reservoir were not dissipating and getting sucked back into the master. Hope this helps. Tim

I rebuilt mine with a Cardone @ 8-10 years ago, never a problem so far

No. The brake lines will only bolt up to a 85 m/c. I bought a new PBR one from Ecklers a few years ago for $120 but the price has gone up since. Check rockauto.com, oehq.com, corvettecentral.com They usually have good prices. Also call Chris May at Superior Chevy parts department in Kansas City. Ask for the corvetteforum discount, his prices are unbeatable for AC-Delco and GM parts.

Try ac-direct, or one of the other discount GM dealers. gmpd is often not the lowest price, and they have zero customer service.

No need to investigate, in my last post I gave you the best 4 sources for quality replacement parts. One of them will have the cheapest price you'll find anywhere short of ebay.

Good choice, even if it was your second. I ordered a Raybestos MC brand new from rockauto and had it put in about a month or two ago.(As a side note, shipping was fast, well packaged and cheap for 2 day air with those guys) Raybestos has an awesome product to say the least. Flawless. Very high quality part. Worked great ever since. For 150 bucks, honestly you can't beat that s*** for a new unit unless you steal it. Literally. My mechanic wanted to charge me 380 bucks for a probably sh1ttier unit from the dealer and that's without installation. And yes, for anyone else reading this out there, don't waste your time with a rebuilt PoS to save a measly hundred bucks. A master cylinder is DEFINITELY not somethin you wanna be a cheap *** on. It's the center hub for your ENTIRE braking system. That goes out and you're up the creek without a paddle to put it lightly.

Any idea if the Wilwood master cylinders fit? They have some nice features and cost similar.

as far as I know, they don't have combination valves, therefore will require buying a proportioning valve which isn't as good, and will require modifying/rerouting the brake lines. Wilwood is never cheaper.

Bump from the grave. Need a MC for my 1992 and it seems the only ones I can find now are the Cardone. Have they gotten any better or would I be better off tossing an anchor out the window?

STOP ALREADY. Cardone has at least two types of master cylinders, the much maligned rebuild sans reservoirs and Cardone Select which are NEW, not rebuilds. Also come with new reservoirs installed. Piece came well packaged, fit was perfect. I have not finished the total break job yet but so far so good.
