Default Throttle body sensor/vacuum question

I found this vacuum line/sensor under the throttle body. It was not bolted or screwed in to anything. The vacuum lines were so brittle that they broke when I pulled it out. One of the vacuum lines was connected to the bottom of the throttle body and the other went to the back of the plenum and connected to a raised circular thing on top of the plenum. I can't find this in the fsm. Does any one know what it is and where it should be mounted. All I see in the fsm, under the throttle body, is a T connector and a small, black vacuum canister. I was going to take off the TB and clean the plates and the IAC as my car idles around 1k. Now I need to know what this is and where it goes. I am very inexperienced and would appreciate any help/advice. Also, it looks like something should connect to the end opposite of the vacuum lines. Thanks guys.[IMG][/IMG]

EGR valve
Unit with wires shown in pic is EGR solenoid that controls vac to the EGR valve
Bracket should be bolted down on one of the thermo housing bolts

It mounts using the rear bolt on the thermostat housing through the bracket. There is nothing that connects to it on the rear, at one time I believe there was a fiber filter there. The part is the EGR solenoid and they are no longer available.

Thanks Rodj. The fsm shows a partial picture of this but not enough for me. Do you know if the end, opposite where the vacuum lines go in, is connected to anything. It has metal clips and there is a hole where it looks like it might plug in to something.

This egr sol had one vac. line going to the egr valve and the other went directly into the port on the bottom of the TB. Looking at the diagram from RODJ it looks like it should go into a T with one end going into the TB and the other to the canister in the front of the car. I am wondering if this would have caused my car to fail emissions recently and account for the high rpm at idle, around 900 to 1000. also, would anyone happen to have a pic of this? Thanks guys, another lesson learned-E

Most vacuum leaks can result in high idle because of un-metered air entering system, and yes this could cause a car to fail emissions.

What year is his car? Did I miss it?

The 96 Vette has it mounted to the plenum, driver's side, half way (or so) back. PCV valve is mounted to the plenum too.
