Default Slop in tilt steering wheel

its in the tilt
anybody ever change the gears (or what is in there)
special tools ?
big pain in the *** ?

Could either be the 4 bolts that hold the mechanism are loose or the tilt 'pin' is worn.

You have to disassemble it pretty far to get at the bolts and pin.

Could also be the 'flex sphere' is bad but probably not likely.

On my '93, it was determined that the flex sphere is worn. I was told it would be cheaper and easier to swap out the whole column... Any input or advice on this?

On my 86 the tilt joint was worn bad. The pins are much harder than the pivot joint parts that they fit in so the pins weren't worn. The pivot joints were egg shaped from previous owner pushing on the wheel to exit the vehicle. I found the pivot joints are the same in Cadillac mid 80's and early 90's and fit the corvette column. Also much cheaper and available. They are easy to change once the column is removed.
