Default 1985 C4 Lock plate removal?

Just got the steering wheel off of my '85. I need to replace the issue of the turn signal not staying engaged, it's just floppy (What part could it be?)
I tried getting the lock plate off, but it's a telescoping wheel so the column comes out a bit more than expected. The lock plate remover tool I had wasn't long enough to even touch the lock plate. I can't seem to find a lock plate remover that is long enough, I read somewhere about a "5/16 - 18 set screw" on the top of the column, I can't seem to find where it would go if that's the case. Does anyone have a diagram or a picture of where the screw goes into?

Any help is much appreciated!

The set screw goes down into the center of the shaft. The set screw temporarily replaces of the locking lever for the telescope function. Push the shaft in and lock it where you want it.

The set screw replaces #7 in this diagram. It's pretty straight forward. If you have the steering wheel off already I'd think you'd have seen it's intention. 5/16-18 is correct and a set screw does much better than cutting off something 'other than'!

Your issue is quite likely the directional 'pivot actuator'.

I know this is probably the wrong part, I ordered it a few weeks ago not knowing it was the wrong part. Since I have to remove it anyway to get to the Pivot Turn Signal and Dimmer Switch (GM # 7841314) I thought I'd just go ahead and replace it while I'm there. I don't exactly know where the wires lead, I'm assuming its down below the dash but I'm not positive. Where is it located and how do I take it out? Thanks for help in advance!

The connector is under the column attached to the right side of the mast jacket. If you squeeze the harness parallel to the connector after disconnecting you should be able to slide it up the column. I've a friend that will sometimes/has from time to time drilled a small hole and attached a wire to go up the column so that he can use it to guide the connector back down. If it's never been apart there should be harness protector/sleeve that you can see the wires running down the column. Do you have the FSM (Factory Service Manual)? At one time I believe early directional switches might have been serviced with the hole I mentioned. It's pretty straight forward.

See page 52 of Jazzman's guide for an image.

Is there a page on the mast jacket? I can't seem to find it to disconnect it.

It sounds as if you've probably NOT removed the Left Lower IP panel and Sound Insulator. You'll need to do that to access it on the right side of the column. Do you have the FSM (Factory Service Manual)? There's much information in that Jazzman document if you sort through it. It's a very good read for anyone working on a Saginaw Tilt column.
