Default Tuning

I have an 89 that has a 5.7 ZZ 4 crate. Bought from a guy last Dec. He put a Holley 600 dbl pump on it. The car just didn't seem to perform the way I expected so I purchased a new 800 Holley dbl pumper and I am having a time tuning this thing. Either it has jet ***** off the line and boggs down when I cam range and I step on it or I seems to be crying for fuel at a red light any help would be awesome. Thank you

My guess is that the 600 holley was running too rich and you have made it worse by using a 800 holley now. Maybe borrow an afr gauge and see how rich your engine is running!!

That’s a lot of carb for a small block. Or is it a monster small block?

I agree an 800cfm is a lot of carburetor for a small block Chevy unless the engine requires that much?

I have never had good luck with Holley carbs. I always liked the Rochester carbs better, they seem to be easier to dial in across the whole powerband. With a Holley I was either bogging down low or startving up high.

A Holley 800 seems like way too much carb for a SBC. The Rocester carbs used on a lot of GM small blocks were that big, but the Holleys are difficult to dial in with small carbs and seem to be even worse with bigger carbs.

Trolling, trolling, trolling don't try to understand 'em, just rope, tie and brand 'em.
