I live in the North East and don't have the opportunity to drive my Z06 allot so my annual millage is generally limited to about 1500 per year. If there's no snow on the ground and the roads are clear I take it out during the winter months just to stretch her legs a bit.
I change my oil once a year in the spring.

Update:...I just realized that there is not much difference in a "pot full of gold coins" and $35 worth of oil in a $50,000 vehicle

Yes, I too believe the 3k mile publicized oil change is a scam. I change mine at approx. every 5 to 7k miles.
I also change the air filter every time I change oil (and oil filter of course).

Engine Oil Scheduled Maintenance
Change engine oil and filter as indicated by
the GM Oil Life System (or every 12 months,
whichever occurs first). Reset the system. The system
will show you when to change the oil -- usually
between 3,000 miles (5 000 km) and 10,000 miles
(16 000 km) since your last oil change. Under
severe conditions, the indicator may come on before
3,000 miles (5 000 km). Never drive your vehicle more
than 10,000 miles (16 000 km) or 12 months without
an oil and filter change. Use engine oil meeting the
GM Standard GM4718M.
The GM Oil Life System won’t detect dust in the oil.
So if you drive in a dusty area, be sure to change your
oil and filter every 3,000 miles (5 000 km) or sooner if
the CHANGE OIL SOON message appears. Remember
to reset the Oil Life Monitor when the oil and filter have
been changed. See “GM Oil Life System” in the
Index for more information on resetting the system.
An Emission Control Service.
That is quoted directly from the owner's manual. Even GM, with its myriad troubles, wouldn't be stupid enough to put something like that in the manual without actually meaning it. Just think of all the times every car company tells you to follow the owner's manual. If you don't, it saves them from warranty claims. Use the system, folks, it works.

Before I read that I have always believed that changing the oil in the spring was better. Ya know, fresh oil right?
Would the 'enlightened' people who go strictly by the DIC even consider changing before winter storage with 63% left?? I have no idea, but I'm going to change it this fall REGARDLESS of what the DIC says.

Regardless of the use I would change it 2-3 a year. If its normal motor oil I change it between 3,000-4,500. If its synthetic I change between 5,000-8,000 this all depends on how its being used. I have daily driver which is 93 Nissan Pathfinder and have over 385,000 miles. I followed most of the schedule mainteance 3,000-3,500 miles oil change as well as recommended maintenance program. When the ead gasket starting leaking and the mechanic opened her up he was amazed how I took care of it. He told me that the internal components looks brand new. I just needed to replace the seals. The Pathfinder still running except the trans is starting to slip. Sorry got of track, but keep changing and she will every treat you right!

At least once a year. I think thats what the book says. I don't put many miles on the Vette. Maybe 5,000 a year. So for me it's once a year or 5,000 miles.
