Default Magnetic Red Metallic Paint

I have a 2000 Vette with Magnetic Red Metallic Paint. I tried to go to a couple Chevy dealers and get some touch up paint. One told me he couldn't get it. Another said they'd order it. After weeks I went back and they said it hadn't come in. Weeks later....same! Finally went to a local auto paint place the body shops use. They told me thais paint is a special 3 coat process that can't be touched up. They said I'd basically have to order the three paints and put them all on for each touch up and it would never look right.

Anybody been through this and either done it or found a way to touch up little nicks in the paint? Also, I live in Illinois. Front plate required. So I bought the front plate adapter but it comes black and I wanted to paint it to match the car.

Any help would be appreciated!

I purchased my Spiral Gray Metallic touch-up paint from Mid-America. They provide it based on the GM paint code. Check to see if they have your specific paint code. I know GM produced Mag Red I and Mag Red II.

I have never heard that mentioned before. Not saying it is not true, but I have a link for you to try. It is http://www.automotivetouchup.com/. They list it as Red Tint Coat Metallic Code 86. It is also listed that color and code on the Corvette Action Center. The Corvette Black Book calls it the Magnetic Red Metallic, but uses the same code 86.
I ordered Torch Red base coat and the clear coat from this site and it was a perfect match. They mix the paint once you order it.
I painted the front screem mod frame.

If Mid-America can't help you try this place.

APS/Tower Paint Inc.
2120 W Nordale DR.
920-731-2772

Asked to speak to Bill. Tell him he help a previous customer (Damond) a month or so ago for the same color. They can put any color into a rattle spray can for you. I just bought a can of red tint Coat Metallic WA127B for my car. Remember there are different types of metallic Red. Make sure you get the right paint code if you go with them.

To ship one rattle can to me it cost $28.90.

it is a 3 stage paint but!...... it can be mixed in a single stage using dupont and i have sprayed my hood ,spoiler, headlights and front vented plate color with it in mag red on bigger items such as hood or fenders etc etc its best to paint on the car and blend it in with the rest of the car for example if painting a hood blend the paint into the fenders and front bumper

You guys are awesome! You know, I bought a Harley about a month ago. Someone told me to go to the Harley Forum and join because of the great info. So it got me thinking and I found this. It is so nice to post a message and 5 minutes later have so much help!

Wish I'd joined a year ago!

Thank you again and I hope to be able to pay it forward!

I have a 2000 with Mag Red also and I needed to paint my front plate frame too. Got the same story from the dealers around here. I went to Advance auto and got a can of Dupli* color Perfect Match { BGM0537 Red Met(75 WA8919) Replaced T176}. Cost $6.75
I did 2 coats of primer, 3 coats of the paint and 2 coats of Dupli*Color clear coat. Has held up very well and looks like a perfect match.

I have an 02 mag red vert and I was able to get the touchup paint from my dealer no problem. It's genuine GM touch up paint and says Magnetic Red II on the label and matches perfectly, maybe they just don't want to be bothered but it is definatley available from GM.
