The XM magnetic antenna that I use is sitting on the rear crossmember. I removed the two tail lamp housings on the right side and just reached in and dropped the antenna on the flat surface. I ran the cable thru the interior vent on the left rear side of the cargo area and over to the center console.
My XM receiver is an older Starmate 4 that still works fine and it's mounted on the passenger side of the vertical center console next to the A/C controls using a ProClip mounting system
I tried inside the rear bumper, right side of the dash, and under the hood. None did very well for me so I put mine at the center top od the hatch back and that worked the best.

I have C6, removed the left inner light assembly and if you look down you will see steel brace, and just dropped it on the bean. It's hidden, and great receptions, and the C5, has the same brace.
My antenna is mounted on the dashboard where the a-pillar meets the dash inside by the windshield.
My receiver is in the console with the wires running thru where the plug was. The antenna wire is behind the dash and reappears on the side of the dash - just laying there.
I mounted both the nav and sirius antenai (plural) on the plastic drain tray by the rt side wiper. No trouble whatsoever with receptions and this location makes for a very short wire run.
Attached both units with outdoor mounting tape. Its all good.
