All in, the cost was ~$150 installed... not too bad.
I ran the wiring for the rear camera from my license plate area into the passenger compartment via the hatch vent:
You also need to tap the red wire on the rear camera to a positive wire of your reverse lights.
Next, ran the rear camera wiring up the driver side door sill, up the A-pillar, across the headliner and to the mirror.
The kit comes with a cigarette adaptor or mini USB cable for power. Being that our cars will stay "hot" with the ignition turned off, I bought another kit that I hardwired to an ignition-switched power source:
If left "hot", this mirror will record constantly even with the car off
The mirror comes with a GPS module that displays lat/lon and vehicle speed. I mounted that to the base of the A-pillar:
Now that everything was installed, some pics of the mirror in use.
Rear:
Rear reverse:
Front and rear together:
Rear night time:
Front night time. Some glare captured from the windshield and lights; not noticed in person:
Some notes and observations off the top of my head.
The two camera images are movable via finger swipes up or down. Once you have it all mounted, it's easy to get the right position.
The brightness is controlled via right or left swipes to adjust for day or night use.
The mirror says it has gravity sensors and motion detectors to record if your car is vandalized, I don't have mine set on.
The mirror is not so tall that it blocks my original mirror's homelink buttons.
The screen van be turned "off" via a button on the bottom and the screen will become an old school mirror.
The camera images are crystal clear and don't shake like my factory mirror image does from car vibrations.
The mirror is branded "DuDuBell" which I find quite funny
Finally as first mentioned, I had bought one of these for my other car and LOVE this thing. It makes seeing around you a breeze and now I can record everything like a Russian.

I like this. Good how to.... Question though, if you are driving and recording forward motion, can you still see in back of you as you would with a regular rear view mirror?

He said you need to wire it to your reverse lights, but I bet you could just run a switch to toggle between front or rear cameras to record rear view action while driving.

yessir, you can change the camera view on the fly to 3 of the 4 positions. forward only, forward w/small rear & rear only, (but not reverse obviously)
you can also turn the screen off to see behind you as a normal mirror would. i'll post a pic of that by itself soon
Jumping in to follow....also do you have to be in reverse to use the rear camera?
putting into reverse will show you the image with imposed reverse guidelines.
if you want to see just the rear image you tap the screen and put it to that view mode at any time. it acts as your rear view mirror in this mode and i have been using this mode almost all the time.
How does the loop work. For example if something happens to your car while parked 30mn ago but the loop only goes 3mn then rewrites, how do you see what happened 30mn ago?

It records files in 5 minute increments. It records up until your SD card is full. With the max 256gb card it's about 40hrs of footage before it overwrites anything at all.
Oh yeah both cameras record their own files at once.

Thanks for the answer. I suppose each front and rear files have distinctive names?
