I don't know the difference as I've never had the need to do any research, but I've had the original CLB installed since 2007. 1 little hiccup when I first installed it and nothing since. Been a great fix so far for my car. I believe though that the LMC5 might take the whole lock system out of the picture and the CLB just tricks the system into thinking the lock is still working. Someone more knowledgeable will chime in I'm sure and correct me.

This is correct. The orignal CLB, that I have on my Z06, you pulled the dash bezel off, de-activated the column lock, unplugged it and plugged in the module. The computer thinks it is working. The LMC5, which I put on my convertible, bypasses the entire system. Both have been flawless, but given the choice between the two, I would pick the LMC5. Easier install as you don't have to take anything apart, and I think less chance of failure.
I have both, the original was fine and then I got the fuel cutoff problem at 1 or 2 mph. iirc the lmc5 fixed that. There was something else I did to bypass the shift lock too
