'01 engine oil filter fell off

There is a pressure regulator in the oil system (ie, oil pump relief valve), so unless that regulator failed for some reason, the oil pressure can't get above what GM has designed the pressure relief valve to. Driving it hard shouldn't blow an oil filter apart unless: a) the filter was defective or b) the oil pressure regulator failed.

There is also a "C". There is an oil filter by-pass valve that would have to fail as well.
