Random Technologies. Not cheap, but good quality.

I prefer spun metallic cats over ceramic. Ceramic is not as durable. I have a set of Random Technology cats, but when I bought those they were the only one of that size I could find. I think there are a couple others to choose from now.

Do the Random Technology cats cause diagnostic codes or O2 sensor problems if used in place of the original cats on an otherwise stock exhaust C5? RT offers, race style and race only, which would be a better choice considering my application? thanks

I never had any problems with the install of headers and aftermarket cats as far as codes. I do run the rear O2 sensors with extensions on them.

I don't know how clean a "race style" cat will run as far as emissions. The Random Technologies that I have maybe considered a race style cat. Emissions in AZ do not go through a sniffer. They only look at the ODB port and see if your car is throwing codes.

From my own nose I couldn't smell a gas type smell with headers/exhaust only. With a set of aftermarket heads and cam I can smell the gas when the car is still warming up, after the warm up there is no smell. It may be the cats just need to be hot as they should be anyway for them to work right.

I agree with chevylad that I too have never encountered any codes being thrown with those parts installed. Then again, I had a dyno tune right after, so I am sure they also just deleted the codes all together.

I bought my hi-flow cats from performance-curve. They have a website, are a lot cheaper and have many different sizes and shapes to fit your needs. Just my .02 cents!

Magnaflow/carsound (I think that's the other name that they use) are pretty good.

What was involved with replacing the cats? I'm installing new cats and a new catback system on my 2000 C5.

Not all high flows are equal....most are 400+ Cell density (higher number more restriction)....200-300 for best flow.....Magnaflows are 300.....here are some 200..

I never had any problems with codes after headers and exhaust with Random Cats. Well....if you don't count the traction control.

Define what you mean by "works "
Do you mean they pass smog emissions testing ?? and if so what state are you in ?

OR do you mean they will make more HP than the stock ones ??
or should I say ALLOW more HP than the stock ones ?-- If HP is your only concern and you have no smog laws or maybe just visual testing
My opinion is that messing with the cats is a waste of time and $$$ Not alot to be gained--Our testing only showed 3-4 RWHP with Hi-flow bullet metal cats----Best is to get the HP in other ways---You're really reaching when trying to gain HP with your cats !!!!
