Default Racers: ~114mph trap speed. but only 12.54

Hi all,

Ive got a couple questions about racing my C5. Ive got a 01 C5 vert with a 6 speed, 3:42 rear gears and about 400rwhp. Ive only raced it once and had a best of 12.54 with a 1.961 60 foot time and a trap of 113.78 mph. Im on street tires and lowered the air pressure.

Now it is very apparent that I am not the best at getting the car off the line, I haven't raced in 10+ years.

The mph seems to suggest I have a high 11 potential in it. I was hoping to hear about how some of you guys launch your car or what suspension tweaks you did to help your launch.

Thanks!!

As I recall, that is about right for a stock C5Z06 - the closest thing to compared your modded vert to. It doesn't seem like you're very far off what a good car on street tires (limited traction out of the hole) should be doing.

If mine turns 114 I'll be happy as a pig in uh, stuff.

i went 12.9 at 112.3 with a 1.9 60', then 12.7 at 113 with the same 60'. Sounds right on target to me.

With 400rwhp you should have a higher mph than 114. Lets see... trying to remember my first time out on new setup. The car went 12.3@115 and 12.2@115 with 1.88 and slower 60's. My second time out I cut a 1.74 60' and went 11.80@118mph. This was done in a 99 coupe, 6 speed with 3.90's and bolt-ons. Car dynoed 331/343. What was the DA when you ran? You should see 120mph trap speeds on a good day without a hiccup. With drag racing, it's all about the first 60 feet. Lower that 60' time and watch your times drop dramatically.

Exactly right! Work on your 60 ft times and you will see the gains overall.

It's really hard to judge a potential of going just once to the track.

Work on your launch - I suggest drag radials

Work on your shifts - www.rangeracceleration.com will help with both of these.

Get 25+ passes in it... to get a better baseline.

Check the weather. What is the elevation of the track you're going to?

Density altitude can have a hugh effect on MPH.

Go back, have fun, and report back.

and try the performance section for some very qualified responses and tips.

That's close to what my car ran the very first time at atco on street tires, back when it was cam-only and made 373rwhp with 3.42(2.0 12.4@116) As mentioned lots of little things play a factor into mph...traction(max acceleration), shift speed(clutch condition), tires(rolling resistance), weather(including wind) weight etc...seat time will help you get faster
