Ditto on 05 (no problems at all). I do have a problem with my 05 Lexus.

I'll say that I'm uniquely qualified to answer your question. I am currently driving a 2005 C6 manufactured in October of 2004. I traded in a 1997 manufactured in April of 1997 so all early production first year cars. I also owned a 1984 C4 but this is a story for another time.
My car currently has 13,000 completely problem free miles on her. My '97 had 61,000 miles when I traded her in. I have not fallen to any of the recalls, not had any of the common problems or issues associated with the C6 model and I have the transparent top so even the roof has been a non-event for me. My '97 had the noisy fuel pump (a nuisance at best) and the rocking seat. Otherwise it too was completely problem free. I purchased my C6 used with 7,000 miles on it. I couldn't be happier and I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Do your research. Any car can have issues. Any model (first in a generation or not) can have problems. Be smart and aware of the potential issues. Run the VIN with carfax and on the GM VIS to see the repair history. I would say that based on what I'm seeing with the C6 and just like with the C5. The first year has been no more prone to problems than the next two. The DBS pain in the butt has to be mentioned however as it is exclusive to the '05 (some would differ but I submit that they are victims of little more than a common, run of the mill dead battery and not a DBS.) Good luck in your choice and in your search.

I had 2 different 05s, one a manual tranny for 3 months, the other an automatic for 18 months. No problems at all with the manual tranny. Had 2 minor problems with the automatic tranny coupe - had to have the shifter replaced and had the radio replaced. The dealer did the adhesive fix on the top, although there were no major delamination symptoms.
If I had a choice, I'd probably avoid the 05, since others had a few problems.

I think you have to look at one car at a time, what are the options? Buying a used car carries more risks in that unless its from a dealer its got a depleated or no warranty and has more wear and tear. To offset that there is a reduction in price and the real depreciation drop is over. I would look at them, and in my case have a mechanic check it out before buying one. You should get a good price on a car that will haul butt.

wow quite the polarizing question... but I understand all the views expressed.
I think I am going to most likely do it... I'm trading both of the cars in my avatar and it's going to hurt like hell, but I know the C6 will be worth it.... Or at least I hope it will.
Any ideas on these busting axle's?

I have a late build date 05 manual trans and only problem was the rear end noise which was fixed quickly by dealer and the roof seperation.
Roof problem did not bother me at all as I have both tops.
My car drives and rides great, excellent power, no rattles, etc. I would not be scared of an 05.

I'm on my second 2005, and neither has been in the shop for anything.
Food for thought. I had two C5's - a 2001 and 2003 (mind you, it came out as a 97). Both of those cars had problems that where well known problems that GM had still not corrected.
Back to the 05s. There are only three major issues that are known - the bolt on the crank pulley, the top, and the dead battery syndrome. I think it is safe to say if a car was going to have one of those problems, it would have had it by now.

Dec04 built 05 A4 Z51, 35K miles as a daily driver and no problems. The corner of the driver's seat is wearing, the transparent top creaks when it's hot, and the windshield/hood have small stone chips. Other than those, it's been gas and go for almost 2 years.
When I sell mine, I'll ask a premium despite the high miles because the car is 100% trouble free. Given some of the problems reported with these cars, a reliable history should be worth something.

I was looking at 05 vert. Aside from any first year issues etc, I found that I could get a brand new 06 for about the same price as a low milage used 05. Take a good look around at a new 06, this time of year dealers are willing to almost give away left over 06's look at www.boardwalkchevrolet.com

My 2005 Coupe was delivered on 3 March 2005. The roof panel was replaced but otherwise and to this date.....I have had no problems. It's been a great car.
Even after electing to modify the car (including replacing the factory engine with the LPE 403), it has been essentially flawless.
I would have no hesitation buying a 2005. That being said and realizing problems can happen in any model year car.....I would go with the newest model year I could afford.

Not sure what personal experience those posting negatively about the 2005 may have. As for me, I was fortunate enough to take delivery of a very early production 2005 and have had no problems. It's even held up to a Procharger! Bottom line is I've been enjoying my car for over 2 years now while others sat on the sidelines to avoid the first year stigma
