I'm heading to Myrtle Beach for golf trip tomorrow. I'll be hitting Litchfield Beach Resort for a few days of relaxation. I've decided to drive down in the vert rather than deal with airlines, baggage, cancellations, etc.
After seeing some great road trip pics on here, I wanted some suggestions of sights on my way down. Mapquest has me doing the standard I-95 south trip. I wanted some ideas of alternates . I was considering the Dragon or Blue Ridge Pkwy but I'm concerned that they would pull me way too west. I'm leaving tomorrow (Wed.) in the morning and I'm planning on spending the night somewhere, anywhere. My first tee time is at 2pm on Thursday so I've got some time to spend.
I've done the trip numerous times, but all highway, nothing scenic. It's 660 miles each way from Bethlehem to Myrtle. I was always going to meet up with friends, so my goal was to get the actual "driving" part over as quickly as possible. Takes about 10-11 hours; I can't see making 2 days out of it.
Make a pit stop at South of the Border, and say hi to Pedro!
Oh, and be careful in Conway... cops there are super strict about speeding, and it's something like 35-40mph limit through there.
Pretty Sure Virginia bans radar detectors. Don't know about cell phones. If you take I95 all the way down, watch for speed traps from about NC mile marker 20 to the SC border. Saw some in that area the last time I drove down from MD.
Enjoy your stay here. The weather should be great.
va requires a headset for your phone and does ban radar detectors.as for the best scenic route you could take the cheasepeake bay bridge and 17 all the way down ride along the eastern shore
Check with Fourm member iridelow ( S/C LEO) maybe he can help out.
COME ON DOWN!!! This is the time of year to play a little golf! The weather is great and the golf courses are 2nd to none. As for your trip... Stay on the interstate, run w/traffic and you "should' be ok. Watch out for small towns ( Conway, Aynor, Turbleville) you will go through a couple of these towns and they will bend you over, if you know what I mean. Enjoy Myrtle Beach, you will have fun in the vette...
Have been to myrtle beach about ten times. If you get the chance you have to go play a course called True Blue. You will love it.Probably the best course down there.Enjoy the trip.
I am going down there next week from NY, and to be honest I-95 is the fastest way, but you don't got to worry about speed with the vette
Well enjoy your trip.
You don’t want to go to MB though Deal’s Gap or take the Blue Ridge with a 2 pm tee time, unless you leave now, have a place in Maggie Valley NC (Vette’s in the Valley, May 24/25) its 5 hrs solid driving to MB and Deal’s Gap is 1 ½ on a cycle to Maggie, but it’s a good ride and worth doing, on the way back.
The golf is great now, the courses on the south end, where you are going and Murrells Inlet, are more scenic then others in Myrtle Beach. Also several good courses in North Myrtle, Calabash area as well (that’s in NC several miles from the line).
On the way home, go south to Charleston 17S, take I 26 to I 40 Ashville then you close to Deals Gap and the Blue Ridge is right there. Just was there over the weekend, 80 mph no problem 70 is limit, get away with +10, 11+ have a radar. Have fun.

You can take Rte 17 all the way to Myrtle. It's a beautiful drive with a lot of southern Americana along the way. It will probably only add an hour or so because I-95 is about an hour west of Myrtle. I-95 sucks....especially in a Vette.....
While your in Litchfield try to get tee times at Caledonia or True Blue - for some really awesome golf!

I can definitely vouch for Caledonia. Even if you are not going to play a round there, just take the time to drive up to the clubhouse, go out on the back porch, order some food and drink and watch players approach the enormous green on 18 across the marsh.
The course mimics Augusta National in several ways.

True Blue was the best course we played. Incredible!!
We hit TPC Myrtle Beach (I had two eagles, one on the short par 4 12th and the signature par 5 18th), Caledonia, True Blue and Litchfied.
